Springs!
« on: August 17, 2007, 20:10:17 »
As there are so many different +2" springs around i was just wondering what people thought of them,

for instance i have heard good reports on old man emu springs @£60 a pair (which is around my sort of budget) which i understand lift the car 1.3/4".

What's your views on springs :?:

I could say something cheeky.

But TBH you will probably get 10 different answers to this, I notice you want a winch bumper so obvioulsy you need to take tha into account.

Also a SOuthdown tank guard weighs someting daft like 36 kg, if one is on the cards at some point.

My 2" lift sometimes seems damn soft, especially if the truck is loaded, but I wouldn't want it to ride any harder.  It corners quite level though as I have 3 ARB on it.

I think mine are ProComp as Simonites sell them and the guy who had it worked there.

depends what your after... a firm ride and handling for the road, or plenty of flex and cushioning off-road....

heavy duty springs?

I also use it as a daily driver so it has to be a compromise really.

I think Blue has pro-comp but anything you fit will p[robably be stiff for a while untill they bed in.

The weight of a winch will affect the rate of the springs that you will need for a given lift height.

You need to consider the whole package

having DISCOvered my procomp rear springs broken (one has 12 coils, other has 7!) :?

...and two leeky rear shocks, i`m pondering a new lift kit...

budget is a concern, although it will cost what it will cost, need it road worthy.

got cranked rear arms and front correction bushes, no ARB`s, and currently on 235x85 R16`s. a bit of trimming is evident in the usual places, and the procomp kit (frontsprings & Shocks ok, rears knacked) seems to work ok, although the rear end does feel a little loose (with 2x failed shocks, and a broken spring i suspect this is the main reason... a frame ball joint also on list....)

whats the best place/price for a general purpose kit?

will i have any change out of the £200 region?

 - would it be ok to just get rear springs and shocks, or would it be not a lot more to do the lot?

sorry for the partial threadjack....

thanks

Ja.

**Edit, having spoken to Graham at farwell 4x4 i think i`m now sorted!**  :D

That depends on the particulare Bearmach springs in question and the sprung weight of the chosen vehicle, after all the quoted ride hight lifts are generic figures.

I,ve got the cheap Britpart kit from a certain fir at Matlock seems ok at the moment .The guy on the phone was doing his best to get me to buy the dearer shocks but with a limited budget I stuck with what I could afford .He then gave me the price which was £40 dearer than the mag and the internet.Told him this and he readjusted the price.Cheeky Sods!!.I,ve got 265/70x16 on and I,ve not had to do any trimming yet.
