How wide??
« on: August 20, 2007, 11:01:49 »
Sorry if this has been asked before but, I am now about to order some new tyres for my 95 cherokee 4.0ltr and i just need to know how wide i can go with them. i am looking to be about 30" tall but want them to fill the arches full.

habe been told that 235/75/15 will be fine on a 7" wheel but I was thinking about useing an 8" wheel?? unfortunatly no one seams to be able to tell me about the amount of off est on the differant wheel and i dint want to end up with my tyre protruding out.

i was also woundering if 31/10.5/15 would fit?? I am running standard suspention at the mo but thats only untill i get around to ordering a lift from the states.....

As always any help or surgestions greatfully appreciated

i don't fully understand the xj cherokee (i'm a wrangler owner) but what i do know is that to fit a 31" tyre you will need a 4" suspension lift.

sorry can't be more help.

I have 31 x 12.5's on stock alloy rims and i only get mild rubbing at full steering lock. 10.5's should be fine.

The minimum recommended lift for 31s is 3". You could try and put those tyres on stock suspension, just don't use curvy or bumpy roads.
As for 8" wheels, that's what I've got, and the large offset makes them stick out, but I've got 4½" of lift to cancel out any rubbing. If you got some wheels with maybe ½" more offset than stock, that might work.
You're best sticking to 235/75R15 with stock suspension.
