Had an afternoon of fixing the disco today. New winder mechanism for the drivers door came this morning from www.britishparts.co.uk so I fitted that. Then I decided to tackle the Rear sunroof which was in the jammed open position. Once I had stripped it down I found the cause - the remains of what appears to be a sycamore seed and most of the sand from the beach at Camber Sands  :lol:

Cleaned and regreased and it works a treat. The Haynes manual states that repair of the sunroof is a specialist job. The Rave manual states otherwise

If anyone wants pictures let me know. Just need her to pass the MOT tomorrow

It is annoying that the Haynes book of lies made the fixing of the sunroof into a task that mere mortals couldn't possibly do. The instructions from the rave manual made it seem easy which it was. It was also fiddly but I didn't have to get a new second hand one :D

And F is for FAILURE. Failed MOT on front brakes. I knew one of them was binding occaisionally but I was convinced it was the nearside one. WRONG it was the offside one and I didn't check that one did I - thats a lesson learnt then.

Been checking out the websites for prices and the difference in pricing is huge. Main dealer is about £200 (and no that doesn't include fitting, I asked :roll: ) to mailorder4x4 at around £60

If your pads are worn right down it may be worth doing a pad change first. a bit of lube on the pistons before pushing them back in may cure the problem, short term.

I will be ordering new discs and pads. For the sake of an extra few quid and some time sat in the rain it will be worth it to know that it is done properly (says he :lol: )

I phoned my local motor factor and they said bring the old number plate in that has failed and they would do me a new one.  When I pulled the offending plate off, the old plate with the LR emblem on was still there. Bit of cash saved there  :wink:

so at a guess ur rear sun roof was electric , and if so do i have to start pulling the roof linings out to get mine to work ? :cry:

I haven't started on the front one yet so I can't comment on that. The rear sunroof is relatively easy (but fiddly) to get at by removing the trim piece that holds the headlining on.

The headlining will pull down to give enough access to undo the 14 bolts to remove the sunroof. I took the mechanism apart one side at a time in case I missed putting any parts back on reassembly :roll:

It took me about 4 hours to get the sunroof out, strip and clean the mechanism and put it all back together.

is there a relay for the rear sunroof ? as when i push the button above my mirror it clicks as though its pulling a solanoide in but alass no move ment lol

The sunroof is controlled by an ECU. If the ECU senses that something is stopping the sunroof moving it cuts the supply to the motor. Hence the clicking. Rimmer Bros have got replacement units for £800 :shock:  so that makes a DIY repair an attractive option

lol ye well just been out to shop and water in through the switches and roof lining and above passanger piller may be its just shorted out

A top tip I found out myself last weekend as my front sunroof wedged open and wouldnt shut. Grrrr

If it is an electric one just behind the switches there is a small blanking bit of plastic. Flick that out with a flat headed screw driver then behind that is a manual mechanism for winding it in for the manual sunroof handle. All it needs is a allen key to wind it in. :D I found that out at 11pm!!

But mine started playing up after I used silicon spray on the runners. It said on the tin ideal for metal, electrics etc etc etc. Grrr again!

I had tried to turn the motor with a torx bit but it wouldn't shut. When I stripped the mechanism down there was a sycamore seed and a load of sand in there.
