Detachable tow bar
« on: December 30, 2004, 16:59:42 »
I'm fed up of having a plough on the back of my rangie, but I use my tow bar quite often and I was wondering whether anyone knows of a rear bumper with a detachable mount on like this discovery one:

I am sure I saw one somewhere on the internet months ago, but I am struggling to find anything at the moment.

Cheers,

Nik.

Southdown make a variant of their tank guard / hitch for the Range Rover  :

There is a bumper with a receiver available for the Range Rover which a freind of mine has.... but the supplier escapes me...    I'll get back to you ;-)

I told you a lie.... he doesn't have a bumper with integrated mount... he has a separate receiver......

His came from Scorpion, and fits in underneath the bumper.

I think this subject is up on the Disco forum as well.  ANyway I bought my southdown one though www.firstfouroffroad.co.uk 'cos it was cheaper, marginally.  The other one on my shortlist was Scorpion racing and had I know they were going to start making a front receiver for the same removable drop plate It might have made the top of my list.  That said I'm well please with what I've got and I tow well over 2 tonnes happily.  There are some photo's of mine in my galery, I'm putting them up slowly but surely.

Thanks for the advise. I am liking the look of the Scorpion  one. I did ring them today for a price, but they haven't got back to me yet...

If memory serves it's about £100 plus £25 for the drop plate, I seem to recall it was going to cost me in the region of £130 for both parts, give or take a few quid.
Obviously this is a lot cheaper than the Southdown but then a tank guard will add another £100 plus AND you have to fit both to the same chassis mounts!
