DIY full paint jobs
« on: August 30, 2007, 19:48:09 »
Just wondered how many people on here have painted their own 4x4?  I have brush / roller painted a few series 3's that all looked reasonable at the end but obviously not perfect. Here is the 1st one I did a few days after it was finished.  Probabaly looks better in the pics than the flesh!

Anyone got any pics of ones they have done.  Did you spray or hand paint it?  Anyone done one with cans?

Cheers,

Mike

I can spray military matt paint fairly good, too much practice in the past

Not done a lot of gloss for a while, but got a couple of motors to do soon, so looks like I will get some practice, probably do the inside of the tub first, wont show so much if I screw it up :)

This is my brush attempt, didn't turn out too bad. Used coach paint - brilliant and very hard wearing.

This was done over a windy weekend in a dusty and draughty hangar using a cheap spraygun setup that I found lurking in a corner

Stickers and c/plate over the dodgy bits and it dont look too bad now

Did the 6x6 sell? Where is it now? I love that thing! But my wife would have killed me if I'd bought it

On subject ....
My 110 was painted in boring old NATO green with a roller and brush. Lasted about 3 years before it needed another coat which was done this year.

Sold it to a hairdresser near Warwick, bizarrely enough.  He was going to paint it back to sand colour  :(

Just doing mine now - some with spray cans, the rest with a cheap spray gun and compressor.

Not going to bad, although i had to sand the best part of 5 layers of MOD paint off it.

Spray paint it any time. As long as you set it to a fine mist and not much air its a fantastic finish. Just like show room.

Sprayed the 101. Took about 5 days last summer.

This is an interesting thread as we want to do our 110.

How many litres would you need (of Tekaloid) to do a 110, what undercoat would you use, and where can you order this stuff?

Cheers.
