whats actually up with it? the door itself, or the lock?

  we tried fixing mine the other day    and in true to self form ive managed to make the thing worse

now the handle on the side of the door wont work the lock

we followed instructions to the tea remove door panels and handel yup easy

remove the 3 bolts that hold the lock yup easy

then insert new spring and put back together....

erm......... what about all these rods and funny bits that have just fallen to bottom of the door?? they forgot to mention those.....

couldnt get the lock out anyways even with the bolts removed

so my advise pay sumone to fix it !!! lol

« Reply #6 on: September 05, 2007, 22:52:09 »
Wow, lots of replies, cool.

Right, whats wrong is, the door and lock are fine, opens, shuts, locks, unlocks all that, but, you have to either put the key in the lock and hold it over to stop the internal button from heading south when you operate the door handle or someone inside the vehicle has to hold the button up.

it's a pain.
I can strip the door down no problem, remove the locking mechanisum and put it all back together, but where does this spring go and what does it look like ?.

Cheers.
Gary.
ps, it's a 1996 ES.

its deffinately the spring
personaly i prefere it that way, as no one can then get in the boot from outside even if its unlocked
and when people are in the 6th and 7th seats they can open the door from inside unless they know how to

The spring is a tiny little thing actually inside the lock mechanism.  If you buy a spare off ebay, or the advert in the back of lro magazine you will find it comes with instructions.  It's a fiddly but simple job
