Naughty naughty words and behaviour

Mary White house is here to stay

Mow Mowlem bless her I wish she'd visit the primary school playgrounds.

I was shocked the other day when I took wee fella to the shinty oh the deleted expletives sorry naughty words had me recoiling in my wellingtons.

I once took my wife to the pub for dinner there were a crowd of guy's letting off steam in the corner and I asked the landlord if there was a place we could go which didn't involve listening to foul naughty rude and obscene words. He reminded me they are all found in the oxford dictionary.

He told me that If I didn't feel comfortable to leave co's he'd have to shut the bar due to loss of customers in his hotel if he banned exeryone using wee naughty words.

I walk down any high street at dinner time and can honestly say that the language is deplorable every second word is very very very naughty indeed and the ones using it are very naughty school children.

Turn on the telly and There's wee bleep noises on before 9pm then after it's naughty word time again.

Well I just dispair  Please bring back Mary White house.

Even the wee boy in neighbours used the word Flikin. Which was a way of deleting a very naughty word.

Well done for getting back on track.

Right  now we have to ban the pop groups goodness gratious have you heard the lyrics on those youngsters walkmen sorry Ipods.

Hoots mon ban the pop groups ban the computer games get back to good old BBC and ban anyone who goes beep or bears their bottom.

It all started when the children of today stopped being flogged with canes and big leather belts for using very naghty words in the playground.

Get everyone back to Sunday school boy scouts Boys Brigade girl guides and any I left out like Army cadets space cadets.

Stop watching tv with beeps at dinner time and get the family round the table for dinner to discuss the days schooling activities. No more of this eating dinner in front of the tv listening to beeps.

Ban the tv and you know I listened to Radio four the other day and heard the naughty word begining with F and anding in k used.

Oh what has happened to society. We have turned into a heathenous race of impure thoughts and morals.

I must think pure thoughts, I must think pure thoughts I must think pure thoughts go away oh heathen there I am cured of my mortal sins. And will go forth and multiply somewhere else good day my friends

Unfortunately its called evolution of language.
Without which we would be speaking a very different tongue.

Its only since the dictionary was formed and the standardisation of the English language that these things have begun to bee seen as wrong.

Words become commonly used and they lose there significance as being offensive (with some exceptions),  you would have been stoned to death a few hundred years ago for blasphemy. Now you can shout "Jesus" on receipt of your mechanics bill without a second thought.

Some start off as being common language and gradually become offensive. Apparently a London street used by prostitutes was once called GropeEDITe Lane, later renamed Threadneedle street.

Things are likely to get worse with Americanization (arrrgh a Z)  and TXT SPK!  :D

Throughout human recorded history the parental generation has despaired of the child generation and a perceived lack of moral fortitude. Such is the human condition and best we can do is adapt. After all they say to stagnate is to die.

I find it funny that these words become acceptable to be used when you are discussing if they are acceptable.

Once saw something on tv where they were discussing the most taboo words that could be used on tv with all of them being uttered as many times as possible.

Yet if someone lets one slip out in any context in normal tv they are jumped on and denounced as being vile.

ooh... and i once burnt a page from a chemistry book in a lesson, with consent of the teacher as it contained the incorrect spelling of sulphur! :D

Hi matey I think your right I had a couple of Swiss ladies in for B&B this morning they spoke in a french vocabulary it was strange to hear them mention <moderated> in it's modern abbreviated form many times in between their conversation to one and other.

I wonder if such very naughty abbreviations are common through out the World or if each country has it's own types in it's own language.

A bit like Gaelic here when we talk in Gaelic it is interrupted by words such as television or helicopter because no Gaelic word has evolved for such.

Fasinating subject.

Fascinating as it is, it is getting a little too close to the knuckle in terms of content, so I'll ask nicely that folk step away from the keyboard for a mo and consider where they want this conversation to head.

And if your quoting facts about the legitimate history of commonly used words (even if they are considered obscene by them that run this site), at least get your facts right and don't underestimate the influence of ancient Germanic languages.

So, seriously, keep it spotlessly clean or it gets locked. Can't say fairer than that.

Indeed it is an interesting subject, but one that needs to be treated with the utmost caution on a family friendly forum.

Also it's always worth a little research to determine whether certain theories as to to origins of words are true or in fact urban legends, I can heartily reccomend Snopes for this purpose, and indeed the OED, both of which indicate an origin in Germanic languages dating back to the 16th century as a word in it's own right rather than an acronym.

(no links provided as they would link to content that wouldn't be acceptable on here)

I doubt it. As the moderators point out this is just a little too convenient. Majority of words currently used in the english language originate from mainland europe. I think the rest of the world use the same subjects for insults but have their own words. Nowadays im sure the western influence will mean they will be using exactly same as us.

Unfortunately those very English sounding words are the Gaelic evolution. Hard as im sure it is to hear, they are part of the language now.
Same as it is in Welsh and probably many other languages.
Just as, for example the very french word "Rendezvous" is now accepted as part of the English language

So as the Eu becomes more integrated I wonder if we will finish up with a mongrel tongue across the board.

Gaelic is I think one of the purest apart from the television helicopter bit

So if I was to say that I say "I saw a pair of Great Tits the other day; they were justing teaching their young to fly" I would be right up a certain Effluent Water Channel without a flattened piece of wood used for the propelling of an aquatic conveyance?

Hallo guys...

I'm off for the weekend but I thought I'd throw my tuppence in.

Due to recent err... events I think it's fair to say that a lot of the moderators and admins are on tenterhooks and walking on eggshells so if we're being a bit over zealous, especially on threads such as this which are walking close to the line can you give us a bit of leeway ;)

I'm not particularly happy with the way things have gone of late and I don't really want anything to go south again :(

Ahh the Galactic Language spoken by the Stainless Steel Rat.

Tried to learn it as it's very similar to Spanish, but couldn't get into it.
Sometimes you need to get away from the crowd, the only way to do that, is to get a little mud on the tyres.
