300tdi help needed

Mate of mine has a D1 300tdi Manual

On Motorway yesterday started to blow a lot of black smoke....loose power and would not accelerate...

Plenty of tools etc to do the job but where is best to start looking????

Got him home ok about 30 miles and does not appear to be overheating etc

Thanks in advance

Sounds like it could be the turbo.

Any rattling grinding noises or anything?

The hose could have delaminted internally. You will need to take the hose off and look inside.

Les.
