Can I change from Auto to Manual ?
« on: September 08, 2007, 14:55:16 »
Is it possible to have my Discovery ES Auto converted to a manual ?

Obviously it would mean getting a pedal box and a R380 box, and a new centre console, but thats fine.

Trouble is, is it possible and where can i get it done ?

And yes i know most people like Automatic, but I would PREFER a manual, if i can't then i will live with it but if it can be done it has to be done.

Cheers,
Gary.

Cant see why not, I'm doing it the other way in my 200, fitting a 300 + auto box, sometime in the near future

Dont forget though you will need all the components from the back of the crankshaft including flywheel and hyrdraulics for the clutch (check if the starter motor is the same for the manual too

The inhibitor switch will need bridging too

You will also I presume have an oil cooler for the box in the front to remove, and the console bits for a manual

Not every problem can be solved with duct tape, and it's exactly for those situations we have WD 40

Unless you do all thje work yourself it isn't going to be worth it, the cost of having it done will not be cheap.  Buy a manual and sell the auto they are common enough like....
'ear all, see all, say nawt; Eyt all, sup all pay nawt; An' if ivver tha does owt fer nawt; Allus do it fer thi sen.

If it's possible, then it's gotta be done........

I don't want to sell the one i have, i like it........I would just like it better if i had a real gearbox, i feel a bit like a passenger in an auto.

I expect it to cost about £1500 with a recon R380, maybe !!!

The money isn't the problem....getting someone to do it is.

thanks for the replies, BTW

im the same with mine, the engine and box's are sweet as a nut and return excellent mpg, dont leak, or anything, shame its a 3 door, i really want a 5 door but everyone ive looked at ive just walked away..... i can see me keeping mine till im sat on the chassis and theres no body left.

im sure with people's know how and endless supply of T and bacon butties you could get it done faster than you think !!
