Where to buy Series off road mods?

I'm getting fed up with picking out the Series mod parts in amongst all the others adverts in the Land Rover mags, and on the net. Surely there is a Series mod specialist somewhere? If anyone knows it'll be Mudclubbers  :D

It's a thought though!...................can't find 'em anywhere! Best I can come up with is a sump guard from Scorpion Racing  :(

Sadly enough i have a few sketches in place for roack sliders, Bumper mount spot light bracket, Front panel spots brackets and was thinking the other day of making my own tank guard.

There was someone selling some they had made up on ebay too a while ago through mud-club though can't remember the details, or even how accurate what I've just said is.

There aren't enough people advertising though, probably due to the small audience compared to coil sprung things. I would more like to see tank guards than rock sliders though, what use are they (apart from looking cool), if you actually used them to slide on, you would rip your petrol tank in two!

The serious off roader (like Devon-Rover) would have their own welder and probably make up stuff they *need*.

I have some on my SIIA i will take some picks and post for you to see. not sure of the make as they were already fittred when i got it but they may help.

Most of the other bits are home made or adapted that i have seen. it's as if everyone has a 90 :)

Well for your first question.



they do come in usefull for going around trees and also rocks and banks of earth that do get in the way. But yes you do have to make sure that they lean the right way and are not about to rip a hole in the tank.
I have used mine on a few occasions now to turn a bit tighter, A little disconcerting the first time you do as it's not a normal thing to deliberately drive into a tree and then continue to do it. as the landy pivots around.
I have on the passenger side sat the slider on a earth bank and continued to 'slide' over it as i went. Something i wouldn't of done if it was the drivers side because of the tank.
I might get some 5 mill steel sheet and experiment with making a tank guard, It would probably mount on the chassis using the spring bolt, and somewhere on the body outrigger.  but then needing another hole forward of the chassis side near the tank outrigger to take most of the stress. The 3 bolts at the front of the tank would probably be used too. but i do have concerns about the structural strength of them as they are made of thin metal. Last thing i want is the product to fail and to do more damage and to ultimately rupture the tank causing a fire risk as well as environmental problems, Multiply that with a very irate owner because it has failed.

In the idea world though i would sell the guard only in the kit with the rock sliders and make it bolt to the them. as it would use them as support.

Now question 2.

Serious offroader maybe.    But i'm just wise with money and would rather make something or get a mate to knock something up to do the job than pay loads for the same privilege and get it from a shop.

and BTW they make changing wheels Sooo much easier than faffing around with a trolly jack.

Sliders does = easy jacking.  I like the idea of tank guards - keep us appraised if you have a go...  I will have twin tanks so am keen to come up with something

The opposing wheels are chocked.    I still think it is more stable than when having the jack under the bumper.

i no it is only one mod but last time i went to craddocks they had quite a few steering guards for the series motors, i might go tomarro so i will get a price. it is true though any mods you want you have to fabricate yourself, and to do that you have o be able to weld.

Definitely steadier than bumper but still a little dodgy or maybe just my technique! :oops:

IMHO go for HD steering bars. Steering guards are not a favourite of mine due to their nature to ride up and over and then hook itself onto the offending object.

Each to one's own.

There is a small market of people making bits for series motors but the prices are high as it is small production runs.

Rebel craddocks - steering guards

Mill services - Rock sliders.

Paddocks - HD steering bars, light bar.

All four wheels - Light bar.

All the above cost a wee pretty penny too. And as above no one makes a tank guard.

I do have sketches to hand for a tank guard and also for a belly guard, there is also ideas and i do have prototypes of two different spotlight mounts for the front. For motors with a winch or not.
Unfortunatly i don't have the time or the resources to make such items as i wouldn't be 100% sure that they would sell and for me to break even on the money front.
Like everything i do i need to test them to see how they last.

Devon-Rover if you wanted to share your ideas sure we could sort something out... and I know Johnathan would be interested so could have them fitted to his Series when I get it back together!!  (would protect his aluminium tanks   )

I'd also be interested the mods you've done to your suspension if you wanted to share - as I know it flexes quite a bit on standard springs

The suspension is all explained Here on my website I'm very tempted to put that set up on a Para shod landy and then see what i goes like.
Work has stopped at the moment for the front as i've run up against the problem that extended shackles alone means that it will affect the castor angle and the UJ angles on the front prop.  :?

And you will notice that there is a few piccies of my landy running the lamp mount that i think would sell as it means you don't have to buy an A bar and it just bolts through the bumper bolts.

Like most thing it's time and cost.  :roll:

any serious offroader would simply move the tank to a more ravorable location, like build one into the back of the tub.

Unfortunately for this Offroader i have a bed in the back of the landy so moving the tank isn't really for me.
And there is those who do offroad to a semi serious nature and like to take the family along in the back.

And given that some wouldn't rather go to the hassle of having to re route everything i think it is a goer.

I shall be buiding a CCV trialer in a few years based on a leafer and yes that shall have the tank in the back.
