'elp!
Got the rear prop off easy enough, just can't get the
24mm nylock nut off. Does anyone have any tricks to loosening that nut? Using a breaker bar with the handle from my trolley jack on the end, with the missus clobbering the bar with a persuader and all the force I'm putting into just compresses the tyres against the chocks... :? I'm guessing I need the LR special tool to stop the diff moving but any other tips would be useful.

I have special tool for those, but its not a genuine land rover one, broadly speaking its just 2 pieces of flat with some holes drilled in them and a bolt (plus 2 propshaft bolts).
The nuts can still be tight, I had a T bar with long length of pipe through the rear floor area so I could get a decent shove on the bar evan after fitting the special tool.

Liberal spraying of lube, good soak, then apply as much pressure with the socket or ring spanner, while under tension whack the end of the said tool to jolt the nut free, good luck

Not every problem can be solved with duct tape, and it's exactly for those situations we have WD 40

cheers, I'll have a another go this afternoon, stocked up on WD40 and I'm not going to drain the diff until the nut is loose this time :( Might dig out the chisel too.

Well after lots of faffing about and a word with a friendly garage, turns out there was a pinhole in the side of the diff pan. some chem metal seems to have cured it. For some reason the oil was migrating forwards toward the prop.
