I can't see :-(
« on: September 12, 2007, 17:48:19 »
Last night I defraged my pc and then I put the screen back on this morning before work and thought it was my eyes. Came home from work and booted up pc and turned on pc and everything that should be a light colour is now pink, purple or light green. for example. In bar menu the whole lot is this pinky mouve colour and the topic authour and the coloumns on that side are green. It seems to vary between each web site but it is mainly the lighter colours that are being effected.  I am wondering if it is my screen now dying on me or was it the defrag as there was a message box this morning saying that some files could not be moved. I went to view the files and none were in there.

It looks like a very girly colour screen now and I can't read much to be honest. Dark colours are fine though. Also a system restore doesnt work either as the colours stay the same. Grrr

Sounds more like a hardware problem.  If it's not the cable, try a different screen.  Is it a CRT screen (ie not LCD)?  If so, are there any sources of magnetism near it - speakers, fridge magnets etc?

Or have the colour settings changed so the graphics drivers are throwing the wrong colours at the screen? Check the 'colour quality' setting in your display settings panel. It might be set really low. Can't imagine why it would have changed, but worth a look.

hey Steve. Well done. the colour was set to 16bit and not 32. Great. :D

So I now see bluey pinky mouve instead of green

I havent touched any cables (except just now to check Thrashers idea)

This is giving me a really bad headache now. Grr.

I have rebooted pc since the 16-32 bit colour change.

It just seems odd that it has happened since the de frag. can I undo a de frag? Pc seems alot slower too now.

You can't undefrag.  My money's still on the hardware.  If you don't have another screen, do you have another computer (eg laptop) you could try with the same screen?

Iv'e done it :D

I had a fiddle with the buttons on the side of the screen and there was 1 setting called reset. I hate pushing those buttons as normaly it mends the problem but creates another 10!! But this time it has worked. yippee. Just as I was about to go to bed with a headache too!!
