« on: September 14, 2007, 02:15:50 »
ok just fitting a new (ok second hand but its new to me) rear quarter pannel and its green and obversly not going to match my truck  so im getting it preped to spray it the smae colour, but at first i had to rub down some of the bumbbles where the aluminium had oxidiesed.... so now parts are down to bare metal........

so what sort of primer do i use on aluminium or in any case any bare metal???? or do i just use the same old normal grey primer i use to spray over body filler?????
I LOVE MUD!!!!!! but my engine doesnt

By rights you shoud use 'etch primer' for bare ali, but if it's only small area's don't worry about it  just use the normal primer.

Just make sure you dry flat the primer NOT wet flat it as it will hold moisture & bubble up at a later date.

everyone will knock what im about to say, but! ive ALWAYS used red oxide primer on ally and it has never been a problem, plus about a tenth the price of etch.
just scotch brite the ally to rough it up a bit first.
