Escudo is the GV in north America and I beleive Africa.

From experience the Sidekick and Sunrunner are Mexican built and are almost identical to the Sanata Vits. No Carbs on American models, all are CFI or MPI and there will be lots of emission control gubbins on there.
Check the reg as you may be able to decat it, the cat is probobly dead anyways. If its on original tyres and from the US check it hasnt come over on winter tyres. Also make sure its had a rear foglight fitted, if not the euro spec lights and a switch should be all you need.
