Difflock

Whats the method for unseizing the difflock can get high and low but wont go across for difflock. its on a 1997 v8 auto. cheers tim.

On my 200tdi we wiggled it a lot, then sprayed the linkage with some WD40 equivalent, then left it overnight, then did the same agian and all was dandy.

Hi Chris tried lubing the linkages up a few times but its still the same

Does it show that it can lock on the shift?  My old 3.9 rangie only had hi-lo you see.

had exactly the same trouble,what i did was to follow small stick down and if i remember rightly theres a small cover plate over the transfer box i undid that dismantled the slidey thing in side an reasembled it slapping in loads of grease then move down to the next moving joint/pivot and did things like that, mine was so rusted on every part no wonder i had no movement !!just a quick thought,theres nothing like a coin or such like wedged by the stick is there?just keep on lubing it and trying to move it!another thought,have you followed the rod/bar down to the gearbox if you havent try using an adjustable to pull that plunger thing out that its connected to you will see what i mean when you get under there best of luck bruv :D

My Disco has the graphic that shows diff lock but I don't actually have a diff lock box!

8) Spent weeks trying to get mine to work in the end friend got me a working one from a breakers for £30 works a treat  8)

when mined seized i sat in the passenger seat and pulled and pushed and wiggled lol

Same as the others, LOADS of penetrating oil spray on the linkages from underneath, then patient wiggling until it starts to move slightly, then you're nearly there, it'll soon come free, I whacked the lever on mine with a hide hammer, but wouldn't suggest using brute force and ignorance on anyone elses car!

Now have a D2 TD5, and I've been robbed! It hasn't got Difflock! Not impressed, never even thought to check ............  :roll:

If it's an early TD5 you may be able to add a difflock, I believe that you have to check the casing to see if it has the bits ready for connecting!!

Thanks for that! My D2 has got some very lovely 19" rims with 255 tyres on, so I won't be needing difflock for a while .............  :lol:

It will be staying on tarmac for now!

Cheers for the advice guys. Got the difflock working had to take the lever housing off.The spindle had seized into the ally casing a quick rub with some emry and plenty of grease sorted it.  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D

Is it possible that I have got a faulty switch? The difflock light keeps flashing on and off. When I hold the lever back tight against the gate the light goes out and stays out but normally it tends to flash intermintently.

It could be...

But listen out for clunking when your trying to get thorugh stuff where the difflock is under stress... I get pretty significant bangs from it if my co-driver doesn't hold the lever over.

I suspect it's just the linkage though.

You can adjust the switch on the transfer box. Make sure diff lock does disengage though :roll:
