Only down side thinking about it I have the impression of the Golf Ball in the paint work, just called Chips Away and been quoted about £140, as it would be a panel beat job and a fill / re-spray.

I have done this before with Big Rich and my Dad after I had a fight with a concrete post and my front wing, in which the post one he he
You would never know though now, looks fab. So might opt to do it myself as have plenty of paint left over and some filler.

Although gonna write that letter to the golf course and see how that goes too.

Thanks again guys for all your advice.

Letter to Golf course
« Reply #9 on: October 13, 2007, 10:06:34 »
This is the letter I wrote to the Golf course:

Dear Sir/ madam

I write to you most upset and disturbed as on the evening of the 31st August 2007 whilst visiting a friend in her new home at 41 Colonial Drive, Collingtree park, I was parked my car in her drive way and was inside the house, “luckily”.

Her son came running into the room and said a Golf Ball had just hit my car with a loud thud and had rolled down the road. I went out side to indeed find a Golf Ball had hit my car, and a hell of a speed judging on the dent it has caused in my drivers side door, which now contains a Golf Ball impression in the paint work.

I thank god I or no one was out side as the force would have knocked someone out or worse killed them. Or if it had been a few inches higher it would have smashed my window.

I have enclosed a picture for you as proof and write for some compensation in order for me to get the dent removed from my car. I have been given a rough quote over the phone of approx £150, although they would need to see it to give me a written quotation.

Look forward to receiving your response.

Yours faithfully,

Lorna steggles

COLLINGTREE PARK.GOLF CLUB.

Dear Miss Steggles,

I am sorry to hear about the incident involving your car when it was parked at 41 Colonial Drive.

Because it happened on August 31st 2007, I am unable to discover which golfer actually hit the ball. As the golf club carries no insurance for this kind of accident it is the individual responsibility of golfers. I am unable to help.

Should you have the damage repaired and provide me with a copy of your invoice I may be able to make a small contribution.

Yours Sincerely

Les Pullan
Club Secretary

I know what a crock of ****.
Stupid, they must have a record of who was playing that day, although not like they would have been able to tell the exact person who hit the golf ball that way even if I'd have done the letter the same day it happened.

Any advice?

Should I reply or is it a loss cause and best to just bite my lip and repair it myself :?:

I would have thought that the Golf club had a legal obligation to take reasonable measures to prevent golfballs from leaving their grounds. And must have public liability insurance. So the excuse you received sounds like a crock of poo to me.

Tell them that you are going to write to the local council to see if they are liable as this is a matter for the health & saftey department, they would have to have measure's  in place to stop this happening otherwise they would not get planning permission, they are just trying it on, let them know you mean business & if they do not pay for the repairs you will have no other alternative but to take legal action.

Dear Les Pullan,

Reference your letter regarding the incident involving my Vehicle that was dented by a Golf Ball whist it was correctly parked on a friend’s driveway in Colonial Drive.

I feel I should have been able to park my car safely and without fear of damage, costing me money for something that was not my fault and was out of my control.

I am most un-happy with your reply that no one seems to be able to take responsibility for the damage to my car. I am most concerned about this and feel as stated in my previous letter that someone could have been seriously hurt, therefore I am left with no alternative but to take this matter further and I will be contacting the local council to see if they are liable as this is a matter for the health and safety department. It is a serious accident waiting to happen.

I feel that it is the responsibility of the golf club to put safety measures in to prevent this happening.

Once again I look forward to receiving your response.

Yours faithfully,

Lorna steggles

Hi Lorna,

My home backs on to a golf course and any damage caused to my property by their members is usually dealt with PDQ.

Over the years I've had a few pieces of glass broken and they've always sent a glazing company round to sort any problems out.

Once a ball came through my conservatory roof shattering the glass into a million bits, underneath was a kiddies tent thing with loads of plastic balls in it, we'd only got it a couple of days before and they replaced that too.

Don't let them fob you off, go for the throat - its not as if you're billing them a few thousand quid is it?.

Good luck.

I have had no reply from the golf course, and feel i gave them plenty of time to reply to my letter, so have now wrote this top the council...........

Dear Sir/ madam

I write to inform you of an incident on the 31st August 2007, in which my car was parked on a friend’s driveway at 41 Colonial Drive, Collingtree Park, Northampton.

When a golf ball came flying over and hit my car on the driver’s side door, leaving an imprint of the golf ball and a fair size dent.

Please see enclosed correspondence between myself and Collingtree Park Golf Course regarding this matter.

In which they are saying that the club carries no insurance to deal with this kind of incident, however, I feel it must be the responsibility of someone rather than myself, as there are no warnings regarding any risks relating to the golf course and parking issues, and I do not see why I should have to pay as quoted approximately £150 to have the dent removed and repaired.

I was clearly parked in the correct way on private property. Not to mention the force the ball must have come over, it could have smashed a window or worse knocked someone out and caused a serious injury.

I now leave it in your hands to find out who is liable for this, and feel it is a matter for health and safety to prevent it happening again and either causing damage or injury.

I look forward to your response regarding this issue.

Kind regards

Lorna Steggles

All business' must by law carry public liability insurance, if say a paying member of the public crashed a, "Land Rover Experience"  vehicle into your leg would you expect them to say, sorry you need to take it up with the individual??

I think you've got something there - how about a new 4x4 event? A golf course is set up around a pay and play site (or some handy private land). You have to take shots standing within 6ft of the vehicle, so you now exercise driving skills in getting to wherever the ball has ended up and golfing skills in putting it somewhere easy to get to!

I would rather set a load of ramblers loose on a pay and play site  and try to run em over whilst they try to find a route that you can't follow them up. with some sort of handicap based on sex, age, size and color of socks.

yes, sort of 50 points for OAP, 100 points for each person, or tripple bonus if you get two at once.

Ramblers often provide good traction if you lay them down in ruts as well.  :-$ :-$ :-$

okay going off the subject a little guys he he  (Funny though)  :D

But the idea of going over there with a load of you and some press sound fun. As well as messing the turf up and saying i have no insurance to cover that sorry

Will keep you posted as to a reply (if i get one) from the council.

Cheers for the light hearted comments, cheered me up a little, as well as knowing you all feel the irritation to my situation.

Count me in for some golf course related offroading, have they got any water traps to drive through what do you think theyre reaction would be to a discovery emerging onto the fairway via a lake!?

Some sand ladders could be handy too................
