Grrr

Went out at lunch to drop off some junk at the tip, got in, turned the key, nothing. Few tries it finally started and was ok on the way home.

Now have it on the drive and turning my eye on some seriousl bodgery under the sterring column and drivers side kick panel. Removed a black box marked Land Rover that had been disconnected under the dash, guessing this might be the original alarm.

Found an immobiliser wired in under there, soldered with insulation tape over it, one of the joins was brittle so removed all traces of both alarms.

Can anyone reccomend an alarm system for the Discovery? Looking at Toad and Scorpion right now.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

Can't recommend an alarm but try Sterling ICE in Havant.

Fitted an immobilisor for me which has always been fine.

Why buy an immobilser..... if you're gonna fit it yourself, fit a battery master switch somewhere handy, with a fused link for the radio.... and then add a couple of switches that have to be in the right place to allow power to the stop solenoid or something like that...... simpler aswell!!
gone from 200tdi.... to 300tdi... still with loads done to it, in fact, even more than the last truck...LOL!!!

I didnt bother with an immobiliser having ended up in a similar situation to you and having to perform some roadside bodgery and rip the alarm sounder out with a keyed up mate to get me going, we've just put a cheeky disguised switch (labelled as something else) to the ignition which allows no current to the starter.............
'Its Gripped'
'Its sorted!'

Some insurance companies want a Cat2 device (immob) as minimum protection (the factory fitted pile-o-junk is not Thatcham approved   ), and in general it needs to be fitted by an 'accredited' fitter !

I'm 'certified enough' It doesnt make a lot of sense but I can more or less get away with it having done the course but not the assesment, I just get it checked over but a mate that is certified after.

I found more of the damn system today too,t hink this predates the sparkright one I removed though :S

I havent found the LR one thats alledgedly fitted, unless its the box in the post I'm about to put up.
