MOT Questions.
« on: October 05, 2007, 20:59:38 »
My little Vitara is due in for the dreaded test next Friday and I'm unsure about a few things.

1. It has 2 rear fog lights but only the offside one works, is this acceptable as I'm sure I read somewhere that you only need one on the O/S.

2. The rear wash/wipe doesn't work anymore, is this ok for the test ?.

3. It has rear seats in for my dog but no seatbelts, will I have to take the rear seats out for the test?.

Answers appreciated,

Ta.

I belive that you only need one fog light, O/S.

2. The rear wash/wipe doesn't work anymore, is this ok for the test ?.

My vitara has had the rear wash nozzle removed and passed so you should be fine.

3. It has rear seats in for my dog but no seatbelts, will I have to take the rear seats out for the test?.

I believe that you would either have to remove the seats or install seat belts to meet the requirements.

Hope that helps.

You'll faile without the belts and the seats as past a certain reg they must be fitted and if they were fitted originally they must be there. This is why Rabbit is now a 2 seater as one of the mounts looked a bit iffy.

Rest, you should be fine with :)
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

Are they bench seats ? if so they should pass.

I would remove the seats.

You only need an offside rear fog light, imports Surfs ect always have one fitted as part of the import procedure and MOT (Though those that go off road rapidly get them ripped off)

The inspection of rear fog lamps is confined to the one rear fog lamp which is required to be fitted to the centre or offside of vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1980.

Not tested

Rather more complicated but if the vehicle was originally fitted with seat belts then they have to be present. If I read the manual correctly, removing the seats removes the requirement to have the belts fitted.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I have disconnected the left hand fog lamp and painted the red lense black to match the bumper. The rear seats will be coming out the day before the test. Just hope it doesn't cost as much as it did last year - £530  :(
