Bonnet release cable
« on: October 11, 2007, 21:53:27 »
My 110 has a new bulkhead, which is nice, but whoever fitted it neglected to fit a bonnet release cable. Instead, I've got a bit of wire sticking out of the grill

Now, I've just bought a new cable for a few quid off of ebay but I've no idea where it's routed to, or how. Can anybody tell me where it goes, or even provide a picture or two please?

I broke mine on my disco 2 and got is stuck 5 times and got fed up taking it to the garage so I added bonnet pins.

Easy way to go if you get stuck.

Sorry I can't help where the cable goes.

I think it goes through the bulk head behind the speedo/above the brake pedal.

At least thats where mine is, but it didn't have one to start with...

When did they fit bonnet release cables? My 1986 90 hasn't got one (no signs of one ever been fitted)?  :-k  :-k  :-k  :-k

come out through the footwell area up and along the wing to the slam panel and then into the bonnet release thingy... but iv also sacked mine off because it needed stupid little clips to work properly which were ***** me off.... So mines still got the cable there but you pull the cable through the grille for now untill i add bonnet pins.

The release handle is on the left hand side above the clutch pedal. Runs around by the wing then in at the left hand side looking in from the front.

Personally I hated mine, never worked so took it out and fitted quick release catches to the bonnet. Looks double hard :)

Thank you Les, that's brilliant. I'll have to have a look to see if mine has the bracket for the handle welded in place.

Thanks everybody else too. Can I ask those of you that have ditched the cable what you've replaced it with to keep the bonnet shut? What were the pre-'86 ish vehicles fitted with? Was it a lever in the grill much as the old Stage 1 V8 had?

I'm not interested in bonnet pins - I've been there and done that with a Discovery. I want something that offers a bit of security and is at least slightly more sophisticated than the bent bit of wire sticking through the grill that I currently have
