Which Group are You?
« on: October 12, 2007, 15:55:41 »
Although I’ve been driving Land Rovers for a short time, I’ve come to notice that there are NINE main groups of driver.

Group One – The Image Cast…people who buy Land Rovers without really knowing the social circuit or history that comes with the marques. They are not the type of people who buy the magazines, or use any forums, but purely like the vehicle as a 4x4, an image status as it were.

Group Two – The Enthusiast Cast…look around, how many piles of 4x4 magazines do you have!!!

Group Three – The Worker Cast…people who buy Land Rovers to fulfil a certain role. For example farmers, forestry workers, emergency services, quarry’s & mines, voluntary Workers.

Group Four - Caravan and horse trailer towers who never go off road and don’t care about history and marquee.

Group Five - None of the above. don't drive a Land Rover!

Group Six - Love Londys, know history of them, work with them, go to Landy shows, but drive a Suzuki, but lots of mags, Landy ones plus off road ones.

Group Seven - Complete Anorak who has never owned anything without a green oval.

Group Eight - I own a Landy and would like to use it more often to do Landy stuff, but can't due to it being full of horse crap, fodder and straw'

Group Nine - Got a Landy and love it, hell it's my second name. Never get to use it, but always have to work on it in the vain hope that it'll run properly some day.

Of course, you can belong to more than one group. You will probably notice that a lot of people are members of both group two and three.

This is purely my observation, and based on nothing more that what I see driving out and about. Please feel free to add and more groups if you wish.

I would personally classify myself as Group Two.

Surely if you were that group you wouldn't be reading this?

So which class am I then? I buy a magazine, love all land rovers, take my disco off road and tow trailers here there and everywhere. I dont use it for any running about except once a week to keep it all running!

I think there needs to be a class 4 which is for caravan and horse trailer tow'ers but never go off road and dont care about history and marque.

Well I'm certainly a combination of 2, 3, 4   and 5. At a push there is also a bit of 1   and 6 in me as well.

Image - first got the diesel RRC on the road just co I wanted a it and knew diddly squat about 'off roading'
Magazines - check
4x4's for work - check
tow horsy trailers - check
Don't drive a LR - check (those moments when both RRC are off the road and just have the G)
Non LR off road mags - check (including classic tractor)

 :? no I haven't a clue about myself either.

Why do people feel the need to apply stereotypes and try to put people into groups?? and does it matter what you drive.

So that other people can come along a demonstate how they don't fit in with any one of the groups.

The other answer is to do with marketing stratergies, spent most of last academic year proving one of business lecturers marketing assumptions wrong :D Though having said that some were fairly accurate.

Reading the Groups I don't seem to fit into any of them, unless you include Voluntary Work, then I'm in Group 3.

I'm working on Group 2 though.

As for mags, I've got 5 magazine racks full of em. SWMBO says I just give them away or car boot them but that was met with a shock horror looks on my face - apparently the blood drained from it

for the past 18 years we've had some sort of landrover, simons had a freelander for work for about 6 years and I've had a runaround tow the caravan off roader for the past 6 years, which does get comments from the other teachers!!!!!!!
