http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/display.var.1754492.0.will_speeding_fine_blunder_cost_20m.phpI know the stretch of road they mean too.Starts at Segensworth roundabout. Used to be national speed limit. Now a 40then a 60then a 40 again
I'm a member of our local IAM group and we had a talk from one of the partnership guys recently. All the way through his talk he referred to "safety" cameras and got right miffed when we all called them "speed" cameras. When asked if they could detect drunk drivers, dangerous drivers, those without a license, road tax or insurance, those with bald or under-inflated tyres, etc he had to say no ~ all they can do is catch inattentive speeders. Point made :D
In view of further creeping stupidity of 20mph speed limit I came across the following:Latest national figures indicate that average accident severity is far higher in 20mph zones than in 30mph zones."# In 20mph zones in 2006 17% of injury crashes were fatal or serious# In 30mph zones in 2006 13% of injury crashes were fatal or serious It would seem that the Council in Portsmouth are intent on killing off the inhabitants

Being in a 20 or 30 zone doesn't mean that was how fast they were going. Around here (Bristol) 20 zones are cropping up all over the place and the people who you see speeding are generally the local residents :?

Well if reports are right the taxi's are already ignoring then, as are the buses, it all started when a cyclist rode out infront of a bus on a Zebra crossing and got splatted.
