Finally a use for my phone :)
« on: October 14, 2007, 16:17:10 »
I never thought it would come in useful, but I've managed to get my Linux box to talk to my Streamium SL300i (uPnP media streamer).. via my N95 :)

The Twonkyvision server hosts all my music on the linux box, the N95 can talk to it and get the songs/playlists/albums etc, and then it tells the SL300i to queue them up and play them!

What it actually means is I can control the media played in various rooms in the house - i.e. enqueue to the SL300i in the garage, or the Xbox 360 in the living room. Freak out other family members hehehe

Geek factor 8 I reckon :)

I've no idea either
A mate of mine has a real nice Bose system that is wired into every room in the house & can play all media forms to any room in the house.  Also remotely controlled from any room.

Did everyone see that?  Because I will NOT be doing it again!

I find my phone is linked to whatever I drive, normally I carry it around all the time.

But if I go out without it, you can bet something happens and I need it :?

Yes, get the US spec N95 battery. 1200mah Vs 950mah in the Euro versions.

my first phone - a phillips diga - nowt but a phone, only luxuary it had was a removable keypad protector and also a green backlit screen. I think the screen font was dot matrix and it had about 5 awful ringtones

That N95 is a beast of a phone  8)
I think what Thrasher was saying was
Linux           -         Hipbone
Streamium   -         Leg bone
SL300i         -         Knee bone

So....... his hipbone is connected to his leg bone, his leg bone is connect to his knee bone and so on and so on

Not really. I had a quick look on the bay.com and the bay.co.uk. There were loads of options. Here's a 1400mah from a bloke in Chesire.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/High-Capacity-Extended-Battery-1400-mAh-For-Nokia-N95_W0QQitemZ200162572680QQihZ010QQcategoryZ20365QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

94,762 sales behind him gave me some confidence!

Also, ask around on the symbian forums. They're generally quite helpful.

I like the N95, but i've got the N73 and am just as happy with it. Does everything i want. Tomtom, Emoze, full quickoffice software, rotating screen, TV, Panoramic camera, Podcasting.... Oh and it makes calls too!

I might move to the N95, but i'll wait till the N95 8gb and Iphones are out and all the trendys are trying to dump their current N95's cheap...

I use my N95 with my TV streamer (slingbox) ... it's excellent and I can even change the channel from any where in the world (wireless connection or GPRS/3G permitting...)

The upshot is I can watch SKY etc. where-ever I am ...

Um ... Geek Rating 7?

Thing i do like about the N95 is the wireless connectivity. It'll hook up to your home PC network. This gives you the ability of VOIP on your phone. Useful.  8)

BTW, had a quick look at N95 prices on the bay.uk. Couple of weeks ago, they weren't below £250. Now there's a bunch of decent ones between £170 and £220!

I recommend Fring! - it gives you MSN, Skype and Fring! - of course best used on wireless *not* GPRS/3G ;-)

Oh and it's free :)

and I thought my phone was groovey by having a spirit level in the corner to help me level my caravan off!!!

The new phones at work are just a phone. they have no cool ringtones, no blue tooth, no decent games (2 games. 1 is coin flipping (yes it is as dull as it sounds) and the other is tetris renamed as garedn fun or summit).

So all this N95 thingymajig stuff means nothing to me!
