How many people watch TV ?

Just had a thought,   When its announced that 3.2 million people watched eastenders last night ( just for an example) How does they work that one out :-k

I very rarely indulge in TV, unless it is something on the History or Discovery Channel. The rest of it is a load of crap. I avoid the News and current affairs programmes like the Plauge. Too depressing. And now that Christmas adds have started, I give up :roll:  :roll:  :roll:

There are poeple dotted around the country who take part in an ongoing survey of what they watch. These figures are then factored up to the UK's population.

Don't worry, MI6 don't have little devices implanted in all TV's so they can monitor whether you are watching the good old BBC or Al Jazera channel ...... at least, I don't think they do  8-[  :lol:

Like you mate once tinternet came along out went the telly

couple of years ago worked out how much digial will cost with telly in each bedroom, but now hardly on, so i'am not going to bother, might even get rid of the main one.

It went couple of months ago, years ago it would have been replaced very quick, now just a empty space for a few weeks

Perhaps by the number of people suffering depression the following day.  Every time I watch that dross it's just another 30 minutes of my life I won't get back.


I think the ratings have something to do with data extrapolated from a sample group of a couple of thousand people.

It's not always accurate, when they first started monitoring what people watched they found that the families who had the monitoring equipt. watched the sort of programs they wanted to be seen watching rather than what they really enjoyed.

i have been called a tv snob by hubby due to the fact that i will NOT watch anything described as reality tv and refer to it as tv for the hard of thinking

i also do not watch any of the soaps, not much of the comedy programmes, in fact very little apart from films, none of any series as i usually forget to watch the follow up programmes and then lose track of what is happening - in fact i usually read books whilst the tv is providing background noise.  the ones who watch the most tv in our house are the kittens!  they often sit staring at it!

'Top Gear' (obviously)

'Helicopter Heroes' (when it was on, as I know some of the featured Paramedics & Doctors)

'Never Mind The Buzzcocks' (Bill Bailey 'makes it' for me)

'Scrubs' (best ever American health comedy - I can recognise each of the cast in our staff

'Industrial Revalations' (first made with Mark 'Fast Show' Williams, but later with Rory McGrath)


Plus some of the cartoons, when they're on

'Justice League'
'The Batman'
'Batman; The Animated Series'

Theres a few shows we watch, but nothing except Top Gear on the brodcast channels. I'm basically paying my licence fee for that alone.

Other than that, if there really isnt anythign to do or feel like vedging We'll flip on the TV, normally to watch Deadliest Catch or something along those lines, again, Discovery and its related channels really.

TV spends most of its time as a Monitor for watching US shows that we actually follow like Scrubs, House and Greys. Trying to get into Heroes but its not happening.

Sad day when the Yanks make better TV than the Beeb.

Pretty much the only BBC stuff I watch now is the news in the morning. And Top Gear on a Sunday.

Sarah has a Holby habit  :lol: But I go and do something more intellectual while it's on.... like the washing up  :lol:
