Finally after lots of time and money the Avro Vulcan bomber (XH558) based at Bruntingthorpe in Leicestershire has flew this afternoon on its first flight for 14 years
 :D

what a fantastic bit of machinery ,i remeber back in the early 70's one having a bit of engine trouble above our house ,it didnt crash :lol:  ,back then they had local airshows ,

Saw it earlier from work- it flew around in a couple of large circles then landed again- still very impressive and absolutely mahoosive!

EXCELLENT!! Well done to the guys and gals that made this happen.

I recently read a book about the Vulcan raid on Port Stanley airfield during the Falkland War ~ how they ever managed to pull it off is nothing short of a flippin' miracle. Their reward was to have the squadrons disbanded almost immediately hostilities were over. Typical!

Incredible.  If you look at the sort of cars/trucks that were about when they first flew it really brings things into perspective.  Definitley the best of British, shame we can't do that sort of thing today :roll:

I like the remark by one of the crew, its all British made except the garmin gps :lol:

They reckon it will be good for 15 years and then retired off into a museum

Another remark by an RAF guy was this is privately owned and nothing to do with the RAF

Wonder if there are other ideas floating around now for any other cold war aircraft to be restored

They have a collection of cold war aircraft, some flyinh and others able to taxi along , like the Victor they have there

Vulcan XH558 (G-VLCN) is Scheduled to have 2 more Test Flights from Bruntingthorpe before transferring to Waddington for CAA Testing.
The Engineers/Techs/Crew at TVOC.CO.UK and Marshalls Aerospace who have done the Work on the Vulcan have kept a part of British History alive.

XH558 will have about 14-15yrs worth of Airshow/Flypast Service owing largely to 4 New Engines, then She will be Retired to the Imperial War Museum at Duxford in Cambs.

Although XH558 is now Flying, the Calls for Support/Donations will not stop as the Estimate is £1.7m Per Year for Costs and this needs to come from somewhere.

There's no plans for a Mossie YET!! But I'd sign up to help if there was!!
It'd be impressive to get another "Wooden Wonder" Flying again
