Let down by the team in China and having car troubles in Brazil killed  Lewis's championship
Yes, going of in turn 3 was a mistake (he is a rookie after all) but wasn't the end of the race
He's done a sterling job this year and im really looking forward to next year now.
At least Kimi won instead of the whinging spainiard
I'll be keeping my eye on these great web sites over the winter to find out who will be whose team mate's
www.grandprix.com
www.formula1.com
www.itv-f1.com
On another note, did any catch the possible points deduction that may be coming because of Spyker?
It still may affect the championship result
Torro Rosso and Super Aguri and even the new Prodrive driven Dave Richards teams could be in the preverbial next year because of it too.
Check Grand Prix.com for further info

Jake...gotta disagree with you.
Hamilton is no rookie, he's been racing for many years & made poor decisions which failed him.  He won GP2 last year!
He should have had the World Championship in his back pocket in the last race...he didn't even have to win the race.  Putting the car off the track is no-ones fault but his own!
McLaren haven't exactly made it easy for him though!!
Did everyone see that?  Because I will NOT be doing it again!

Your right and wrong in both sense's
Most/nearly all racing drivers start at around 8 years of age in carting.
However they go through their career and what ever formula's they drive in (and regardless of how they do) They will always be a rookie in their first year in F1.
The year that Kimi and Nick Heidfield came to F1...
They were on the McLaren sponsored Gp2 (then F2) team as team mates and battled down to the wire for the top spot.
Both of them's first year in F1 was a huge learning curve and they had no chance of title contention.
Lewis comes in and the whole of England expects.
We now have our own Scumacher and he's going to win a few championships.
This was his first year in a F1 car, lets look forward to the next 10
years

Hamilton has driven very well this year, hist first lap lunge was foolish, but the gear issues and 3 lap (as a result) strategy made it impossible to win.  However it was the tyre stupidity in China that cost him i my mind.

The silver lining, no pun intended.

Is that with the "cheating" issue hanging over McLaren this year it may be better for him to get the title next year on a clean sheet? especially if joe public that only started watching F1 this year associated this season with cheating.

Hmmm let me see everyone else is on a 2 stop race so let's bring Lewis in for 3 that will make him quicker.

so ok he could have driven a little better at the start but after the gearbox troubles you can't really lay fault with his driving.

At least if Hamilton had won it'd, he'd be more charismatic than either a sullen Spanish bloke or a Fin that has marginally more personality than a 17mm nut!

Oh well, after the English "luck" with officials in France on Saturday (TV Match official was Australian & Ref Irish), you'll probably find that the guy deciding Hamilton's fate is a red-neck Yank and former KKK member ...... knowing our luck!

Typical... we build up a new wunderkind and when it doesn't work out the way we want... we crucify him...!

AS we say back in Glasgow... gonniegeisabrek?!

Let's celebrate the fact that he has the best rookie year of any F1 driver, that he came so close to winning the chanmpionship and that he has set himself up for a fantastic season next year.

Anyone fancy a serving of glass half full?!  :P

Gotta agree with The Ski above!

But well done Kimi for getting a tough job done. Who'd have thought it at the season-midway!

Cheers

Well here is a thought for you all, I am based nr Maclaren and play sport with several of their senior management in a centre in New Haw:

Scenario, Ron is in the meeting with FIA after Farrari-Gate...
FIA: Sorry Ron we are going to have to chuck you out of the rest of 2007 and ban your team next year as well as you have stolen an advantage....

Ron, oh poo that fouls us up with the sponsors a bit, HEY have I got an idea for you that WILL help us all out and ensure we accept our punishment with grace....
FIA: err Sally go and check that the door is locked please......OK Ron what.
Ron: Well you publicly say to the world we have been fined, I don't know something big...like say £50million, take our constructors points as well if you want but just let our guys continue it will be good for the sport after all due to us more people than ever are watching F1 now....
We fix it so our boys don't win, Farrari boys non the wiser happy to win so they shut up, it all goes away, next year every one wants to be a part of F1 ticket sales are up and we start again with a clean slate.....what you say?

FIA: Mmmmmm how will you sort out the drivers and get them to throw it?

Ron: well we tell Alonso, at this point in his career he will tag along with it and we can even get him to make it look like he is pee-d off that will go down well in the press. Hamilton is a bit young and hungry so I think we will have to keep him in the dark and sort "something" to go wrong on the cars if he looks to be getting too close, easy to do with tyres and electronics now days.
FIA: Ok lets talk details...

China: Hamilton left out till tyres fail... no need to activate engine blowout due to "temperature rise from unknown source"
Brazil, Hamilton has Mystery electronic trouble in his car, amazingly not deemed serious enough for too much probing by the actual pit team, just leaves him a couple of points short, race officials deem BMW to be let off fuel rule break. mobile call from FIA to Ron Dennis: Err the race officials have giving there verdict but some people are suspicious, bung in a complaint will you, will keep us all in the news and we all know what the outcome will be, by the way well done it all worked out great, see you next year mate..."

Only a fictional scenario for a laugh but have a read and mail it to a few mates and see what they think...?

;)

I was having similar thoughts...you don't just stop winning after such a cracking year.  Funny how it all went poo shaped after the Ferrari Gate

Real shame for Hamilton, I was gutted for him, but that drive once he fouond something that wasn't neutral was well worth watching.

He sounded very optimistic though about next year.  I still think he will outshine Schumacer in time, roll on next year.

What was the outcome of the BMW fuel thing anyway? it might explain why they were doing so well for a change but what did DC eat for breakfast?

I think they were 13degrees below ambient (allowed 10 degrees below.) I don't think there will be any points deducted from drivers.  McLaren are appealing & Alonso is appealing against the appeal
