Marroco 2008, do you want to join me?
« on: October 22, 2007, 21:17:34 »
Too Much Christmas Cheer, fancy doing something different for the New Year? ( And taking me off the wife’s hands!) Read on:-

I am looking for a like minded soul to be my navigator/co driver for 2-3 weeks off roading in the Morocco. Rough details only, at the moment, but would like to hear from anyone who is serious about coming along.
Leaving on or about 1.1.2008 and returning around about 22.1.2008.The cost will be in the region of £1000.00 that includes everything except food. More info later, but at the moment just wondering if anyone out there is interested in joining me?  The wife won’t come in case I swap her for a camel (or 2)! 8)

I am looking at running down to Malaga  in 3 days easy 500+ miles a day , get the boat to Melilla. This is a rally raid so we will be given a road book every morning. Start off  heading southwest  down the Algerian boarder, then west to the Atlantic. It will take 14or 15 days to do about 1400 miles 90% off road so it will be full on driving.

 :)

We left the uk via newhaven on the Sunday morning went, down to Almeria via the temps de series in Bannegon and the Milau Viaduct, ferry across to Melilla that Friday, then down to erg Chebi, played int he dunes a bit, then west on a piste close to then algerian border, up to the todra gorge via another piste through the mountains, stunning senery but very rocky and slow going. Across to Marrakech  then up towards Casablanca (fortunately avoided entering the city) and caught the ferry out from Ceuta to Algerciras. on the Monday and back to Chesterfield by Thursday. 5000miles in 18 days, but the youngest vehicle with us was a 1979 series 3 six pot.

A lot of the pistes have been tared now, but it was good fun playing in the dunes and the oued on the piste across from Erg Chebi.

Have fun with it.
