I finished my twin batterys at the weekend \:D/
I now have battery clamps securing them into place
No more ratchet straps :shock:
Easy to make too
I cut a piece of 1" wide bar and drilled 2 holes in it, got some bar with long threads on and bent a hook on one end (to catch the body work like the original ones do) and then, after a coat of paint, just did up the nuts (oh er)
Looks great and my batterys are now not going anywhere without my permission 8)

I have also started on my next modification
I've got my hands on one of these bull bars (if fact, it came from this car)

and i'm modifieing it to become an A bar
Today I cut of the light surrounds and sanded back the metal to smooth

Now i face a tough choice...
Do i get it shot blasted and powder coated at a cost of around Â£30 or do i paint it with Smoothrite or something like? :D

Just a thought you might want to fit some caps over the +'ve terminals :D

how have you wired this one?

i have done a twin battery conversion i have connected them both seprately to my altenator so they are on two seperate circuits i have some lights and my cigarette lighter working off the second but i will also be running my winch off it when i purchase it so i can use it when the car is off and if it did go dead id still be able to start the thing i dont know if you feel this is a good idea or not?

I took a live from the original battery and ran it through an ignition switched contactor.
This allows both batterys to be connected and charging when the ignition is on but they become stand alone when the ignition is off

you could just make sure you flat it back well then use some Unipart part spray, I have used it on my wheels and on my bumpers and have so far failed to chip it.....as long as it dries somewhere reasonably warm it seems tobe hard as nails!

Jake, I had the sliders I bought from you blasted & powder coated - after seeing how they've come up, personally, I think there's no way you can consider doing anything else.

could be worth swapping round the air feed as it will restrict it somewhat!

Well spotted but you are mistaken

The air now comes in from the side thanks to my Safari snorkel

The original air intake is now blanked off

Jake, any chance you can give us an "Idiots Guide" to adding a battery in the way you have done?

I'm capable enough but have a limited knowledge of electrics so a "how and why" guide written in really simple terms (Ignition contacter???) would be really helpful.

Well today i primed and painted the A bar with matt black paint, fitted it to the car and fitted my newly bought spot lights :D
I haven't wired up the lights yet, i'll do that at work on Monday

Looks good i think although i do think i'll have to move my number plate down a touch because it's not that visable now :roll:

The funniest thing is my head light bulbs are more higher powered than the new spots :lol: but i wanted some lights to go straight on and thse cheapy Wipac's will do the job for now
But, I'm already saving for a set of Lightforce XGT's to replace them :twisted:

Yes they are Td5 headlights.
I do prefere them to the standard 300 headlights

Yes, straight swap
The light pans are better for running uprated bulbs in too

I brought my lights of Ebay a while ago and brought the bulbs a few months ago from work
