I know some of you will gasp outloud and would like the authorities to come down upon me with much furious might and vengence...But......I have been running my D22 pick-up with out a rear reg plate for 3 weeks now, not been stopped, passed go lot`s of times etc.....
I am just going to see how long it is before it is picked up by the Feds.
I am also leaving it parked up out on the public highway.
It has a front plate, but the rear one fell off some 3 weeks ago.....

How long I wonder will it be before I am stopped?

Definately not a good idea, specially now you have broadcast your intensions on the internet. Would make it harder to plead your case for a lower punishment, now you have proven premeditation for the offence.

i did it by accident though ......

was fettling with my roof rack (where my reg is mounted) and i forgot to put it back...... i did replace it as soon as i remembered tho

Not that I can condone such behaviour, but my old Ex Army series 3 was painted in what turned out to be anti radar paint, which would have been handy if at any point I had been able to exceed the speed limit!

I just drove a Discovery 3 15 miles with a front plate that says "GREENS" and a back plate that says "DISCO 3"

I did have trade plates on the front dash, but there was no way they could be seen from a traffic car.

I was stopped by an occifer of the law to allow a large tractor to manouver a trailer off the highway that had been damaged. I had to laugh when he came to the drivers window from the rear and said to me "thats a cool reg plate, how much did you pay for it?" He was most disappointed when I showed him the trade plates and pointed out that it was a display plate :lol:

What I meant was, that I was somewhat concerned over not being able to spot a blatantly obvious duff plate.
Mind you, some of the 'students officers' that have joined lately have problems with simple things like spelling and grammar, so I shouldn't be too surprised.

I remember him ticketing a mate of mine at least ten years ago for speeding (the mate definately deserved it, he was doing 80mph in a national speed limit area when he passed the radar gun :shock: )

In relation to the plate, perhaps he was using that often used weapon in the Police armoury, sarcasm, and failed miserably. Some never learn the Dark Side of the Force!

Well, 6 - 7 weeks in and I have yet to be stopped in vehicle......Maybe the NPR cameras do not detect a vehicle that has no reg plate
I really can`t beleive that I am still driving around in a truck with no rear No. plate...... :? I have even parked in the high streets of many Sussex villages, towns etc....... :?

its simple .... the computer (boss) looks for the numberplate to check MOT, Tax, vehicle ownership and insurance... no numberplate = not a vehicle!

with all the powers of technology, good old common sense has taken a back seat, and while i have to urge you to display a numberplate (preferably the one to which the vehicle is registered) i cant help but think this is a story worthy of some newspaper....

..any profit to charity of course!

This also reminds me of when a friend was driving his partners vehicle ...which had been reported stolen (following a row..) a few days after... the vehicle was still officially "stolen" and not one police car battered a beacon...

he even got stopped and told off for driving erattically, but after a "sorry, no i wont ever do it again" was sent on his way...

...then theres the section 59 i got... for pulling off the road to answer a phonecall.... wont go down there....

i blame political correctness, and the fear of upsetting someone by telling them off for doing something wrong!

The experiment is going really well. I have covered some 2000 miles and have passed police cars, parked in the high street etc. I cannot beleive that no one has questioned me as to where my number plate is :?
Neither have I had any problems in filling stations. Yet in some filling stations they make you take your crash helmet off. (Obviously when on the bike not in the truck )
