Ebay ratings aaaarrrrhhhh
« on: October 27, 2007, 22:21:37 »
I was wondering if any of the Mud club members could help me with this as it's doing my head in
I order a CD mannual off the bay & as soon as it finished I paid for it straight away, I tried to contact the seller more times than I can remember to find out when it was getting posted. After a week he got back to me & said it had been posted out. It came the next week (2 weeks after bing payed for) & had been charged £2.50 for postage which I thought was a bit dear for a CD  Any way I left a bit of a negative feed back because of all the hassel i'd had to get it. I've always had a 100% score & was shocked to see it had dropped to 75% because of this block had given me a negative feedback because thats what I'd given him
I there anything I can do about it as I feel this is a bit unfare
I don't suffer insaity ! I enjoy it !!!

Nope, not at all.

The ebay feedback system is a farce, i refuse to leave feedback now until it is left for me to ensure this doesnt happen.

Try contacting him and see about mutually withdrawing the neg feedbacks?

Never had to do it but in some peoples feedback you see where it says mutually withdrawn.

Didn't he give the postage costs in the original auction?

same here, I only leave feedback once it has been left for me... if I'm selling I tell them to leave feedback to let me know it has arrived...

if they don't bother i don't leave feedback for them....... :?

Sorry Sweety but if the p&p charges were displayed in the listing and you thought they were high then you shouldn't have placed a bid
Did all this happen during the recent postal strike ? - I had to wait nearly 3 weeks for an item that had gone into the postal system just as the strike kicked off
Emailed seller to be told it had been dispatched so just had to wait.................
Maybe your circumstances were slightly different but was a neg really necessary? - I mean, you did get the goods eventually - would a pos or a neutral with something like "delivery took ages " not have done ?
I'm afraid a retaliatory negative is just about what you deserve
At the end of the day Sweety, anyone that bothers to check your feedback rating will see it for what it is, ie a retaliatory neg, and ignore it so I wouldn't go losing any sleep over it

I agree with Kenny. Personally, I would reserve my negative feedback for someone who has tried or has successfully stitched me up. The negative would be on top of getting ebay and paypal involved.

You have to realise that sometimes the item has really been dispatched, and it really is the courier's fault.

I recently bought a Henry Hoover. This was on thursday, the next thursday I enquired with the seller, who came back to me on friday morning with a TNT reference. Now, the parcel left Somerset on Friday morning (purchase date +1). On Monday morning it went out for delivery. Monday to Thursday it went back to the depot as undeliverable, no one at home. Funny thing is, they never carded it. When I got the tracking number, I phned local TNT depot, spoke to the branch manager. Branch manager talks to the driver, apparently my house number does not exist. Several four letter words later, that the manager happily transmited to the driver on my behalf, he gets the driver to extract the proverbial digit, and 30 minutes later he arrives.

Why on earth should I have penalised the seller for the incompetence of the courier????

The other point is perfectly valid, as well. If the costs are specified, and you accepted them, no one to blame but your goodself.

A word in your ear, though, P&P does not only include the cost of the envelope and the stamp, but also the handling, travelling to the post office, etc....

No nothing you can do. I had a numpty who bought some thing off me, then as soon as the auction finished he e-mailed me to say he didn't want it.

I gave him 7 days to pay, he didn't, plus he threatened to leave me negative feed back... I didn't care so I ruined his 100% because he was a numpty, lets just say he went ape........

The problem is once left ebay will only removed it of its abusive other than that its there to stay. I figure lots of the postage is a rip off, but I combine it wilt the purchase price to see if the deal is worth it.
If want to walk it walk it, if you want to ride it ride it just leave me alone to drive it!

its been said before and ive been a victim of sorts but saw the errors of my ways and put it down to experience..

the prices are always displayed and if not contact the seller to clarify it.

if you think its expensive, then find another seller!

if you think its expensive try buying it from a dealer (if its a cd for a car) or amazon/hmv (if its music) then try and complain!

price doesnt just cover the cost of the jiffy bag, but postage and cost of getting it to a PO, some people dont live near PO's and account for this in their cost, otherwise why bother.

Thanks for the replies :D As for the postage I did now the costs before bidding But was shocked at the state of the packaging. He also said it would be sent 1st class but it came 2nd class  Perhaps I should have given him a neutral now looking back to save me getting stung.
But I will take on what you's have said & be more carefull the next time, so many thanks to all :D  :D

did you try to get it resolved with the seller?

leaving anything other than positive feedback is a last resort when youve exhausted other possibilities.. remember negative can go both ways.

if you didnt receive what you won then contact the seller to demand an explanation and if its not sufficient then contact ebay.

make sure though you read the auction item very carefully before commencing with any bid in future and always check the feedback history and see if you cant spot "fraudulent" feedback where people set up dummy accounts and sell to themselves to build up feedback

also the ebay help section gives some pointers..

You did used to be able to respond in public to negative feedback.  I've had it twice, first time from some donkey who wanted £15 to post £5 worth of window but wouldn't send me his address so I could collect and more recently from some idiot, new to E-Bay who put that I had paid but not fast enough for his liking.

Feedback seesm to be very hard won and most people pay too much attention to it.  If you see neg feedback it's best to look at the person who left it, that often tells more of the tale.
