Wire Rope Types?
« on: October 28, 2007, 12:19:57 »
Decided that I want to replace my damaged plasma rope with wire rope (time being) on my Warn XP9000i.

Is there a difference between rope? Have seen some on ebay for £12, PG Winches for £45, and others (Arbil) for £115!

Thou Arbil was a proper Warn cable (8.0mm) with the wire terminal to fix to drum.  :-k  :-k  :-k  :-k

that looks like a yaughting rope to me  :? if it is, they pull on the inner strands, the outer fabric type material is just to protect the inner strands from salt water ingress

Its not really intended for use on muddy vehicles
Plasma and other branded rope are 12 strands in a plait.
No central line.

its good cos they have a abrasive outer layer, so stopps the inner strands getting chopped up

but bad cos it isnt intended for dragging a landy out of a muddy hole

exactly how many strands are there to the rope ?

the pattern seems very similar to a marlow rope, i will have a look in the book t morra at work and see what i can find
what diameter is it ?
ill be able to give you a mms and swl for the rope

Not sure how many strands there are, will have a look tomorrow! Is there any way of repairing it, or is a case of getting it replaced?
