Double your gas mileage!

Came across this, it says add 2oz of acetone to 10 gal of petrol & get a huge mileage increase.
Any one witnessed anything like this?

Gut feeling is not good can't think it would do the motor much cop in the long run.

Acetone is a pretty potent solvent.

I would say this may not be a great idea, having seen what acetone can do to some plastics.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

Thats what I thought, not a good idea in your own motor.
While I like the idea of increasing your MPG, its not good if you end up paying loadsa dollas in repairs!

Just never heard of this one before.

I have heard of this before,
Not sure of what was said on the video as i have no speakers on the pc at work! What i have been told is that the Acetone lowers the surface tension and allows more of the fuel to be burnt more efficiently than normal resulting in better mpg. I know a couple of chaps who swear by it!
Not used it myself though!

Cheers

Mark

Im fairly sure that myth busters on discovery chancel did a test of this and found it diddnt work, although it did make some strange results.

I think thier conclusion was that if it worked the gas companies would do it, any conspiracy theories were just that theory (e.g the military would do it if it worked due to strategic benefit, unless its a very very well kept secret, they dont)

Everything he says up to adding Acetone is righ though, but those figures look a little exagerated.

Funny how turning off the airconn was the last thing he did though

Turning of the a/c in mine makes *zero* difference. I can imagine in a 1.1 etc it will, but in any petrol engined car with an engine over 2 litres? Hmmmmmm

Makes about 1 mpg on the LSE, as does the caravan.

Odd...very odd. A/C doesn't affect the SC, and towing increases the MPG!

Your A/S is probably more efficient than mine (I doubt it's a difference in performance) and I imagine I'd loose more MPG with the 'van on if I drove anything like as fast towing as I do solo.

Also the new 'van is nearly as heavy as the car.

Acetone

Carcinogen

But who cares how it's spelt, it's nasty stuff so I doubt it will be sold over the counter.

Anyway, who's feeling brave enough to try it?

I would but I use so little petrol these days :^o
