BEST driven cars (no 4x4 nominations!)
« on: November 02, 2007, 09:34:35 »
Hello,

As we seem to whine a lot in here, how about some praise for the best driven  (in general ) cars.

My nomination is the Mazda MX5.

I have never seen one being driven badly, never been tail gated, had one come round a bend on my side, never been cut up, doddrer or middle lane hog or all the other rubbish that goes on on our roads.

OK, they are not common as a focus, but they have been made for a long time and theres more around than say BMW X5s (resiting temptation for rant on X5 drivers). Also as they are "noticeable" it would stand out if they were being bad.

So, Mazda MX5 Drivers, I salute you.!

Original Mini. When I used to drive one, the camaraderie from other Mini drivers was brilliant!
Complete strangers would come up and tell me that they had had one, driven one, conceived their child in one  and often how many students had got into one.
A fun car!

Agreed, you could throw it all over the Track... (road) and you knew how it was going to handle. Superb design.
If want to walk it walk it, if you want to ride it ride it just leave me alone to drive it!

I'm racking my brains, but it's much easier to think of badly driven marques.  On the whole I'd say the Japanese anonymous small boxes are fairly well driven, whereas the Japanese anonymous medium sized boxes generally spend most of their time in the wrong lane.

Are you forgetting the old Nissan Micra driven by the pork pie hat? just becasue he's doing 45 in a 60 limit doesn't mean he's driven well, just slowly.

Trouble is you don't notice good drivers, but if I had to think hard on it I'd say pretty much any classic car you see will probably be drven defensively and with much consideration, as always there are exeptions.

Police 'class 1' drivers.

Generally ever so smooth & fast when the need arises

I know there's been a few cases in the papers, but how often is it a class 1 (Pursuit/'T-Pac', etc...) driver & not a panda/van that's involved.

It makes the media, because it's rare

I worked for a Vauxhall dealership for a while and i used to have a lot of fun with the VX220 turbo's
I very nearly brought one too but i decieded that my licence and indeed, life were more important (I would have died going too fast but with a huge smile on my face)
I'd still have one though
Great car

It is a skill to enter and exit one.
One of the salesmen wanted to have a go when we had one in the showroom.
I showed him how to enter and exit with grace.
Then he had a go...
It was soooo funny
When he was trying to get back out, well, he couldn't.
He ended up clambering out in the most undignified fashion
It looked as if the car was giving birth to a human

Boggart
Just another reason why i never went for one
We had a few coming in to our bodyshop with panels missing and storys of track day mishaps

Hmm,
I've just read the 1st post again and it appears that i mis-understood the reason for this thread. Sorry
Best driven vehicles.
It has to be the tractors around here.
Yes they are slow but they have great road manners.

One of my collegues had a Lotus Elise, & that was equally awkward to enter.

It made a TVR Griffith, even with hood up, look like a lesson in Ergonomics
