is this ment to happen??? V8 plenum
« on: November 05, 2007, 15:26:28 »
ok im still having problems with my V8, and ive chequed alot of the electrics and all seems ok so far, i also found a problem with the dizzy (had abit of water inside  ) so now its running better but not 100% and im still getting popping through the air box!!!!!

its time to start to take things apart now to see if its something mechanicle... i realy want to see if the cam is timed up correctly, i tryed to work it out through the oil filler cap but the cam that i have must have a flat apex on it as the exhaust valve stays at its peek for atleast 8 degrees so i cant find the exsact point of where its fully closed so i cant tell if its timmed up properly.....

i started to take parts off and got to the plenum chamber when i found out this happened... god nos why i started it but kinder glad i did....

i know the fueling is going to be messed up as it hasnt got the stepper motor plugged in, the air flow meter, the potentionmeter, and the trummpets are fully open.......

BUT IS THIS REALY MENT TO HAPPEN???????

Sounds like a bag of excrement

You sure you've got all the HT leads on the right plugs?  :?

Have you replaced the rotor arm recently?
There are a batch of faulty units flying around, even from the main dealers.
Easily recognised, they have a big brass rivit on the top. They tend to short themselves out through the dizzy shaft & are only fit for the bin.

That sounds like leads to me.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

Is that what it sounds like with the plenum chamber, stepper motor etc in place?

Only I wouldn't like to try and diagnose a problem without all the sensors connected and working as (like you say) the fueling etc will be out cos' the ECU isn't getting the right information from the sensors.

god no!!!! it sounds ok with everything on, but now and again it pops through the air box, so im trying to trace the sorce of the problem, im thinking it may be the cam timing thats y its popping up the airbox, as the valves are opening at the wrong time.....

HERES A VIDEO OF IT RUNNING WITH EVERYTHING ON

YOU SHOULD HEAR IT POPPING THROUGH THE AIRBOX

When was the last time you put injector cleaner through the fuel system?
Does it still "pop" through the air box when the revs are constant, rather than being blipped?
Are you hearing any tapping noises from the hydrolic tappets, you could have one that's blocked and not at the correct setting.

Well it certainly sounds better with everything connected up  :D

Just a wild stab in the dark but how about a sticking injector?

used to put injector cleaner in every 2weeks but after i bought new injectors not so long back, i cut down alot, only used it a couple of times with the new ones.....

as above i wouldnt think ive got a sticky injector as there are brand new injectors.....

dont think it does pop on idle only when the throttle is reved but it never used to do it and its always worth trying to sort it out before more damaging things happen to it...... im possitive its not ment to pop like that

All engines missfire a little, TBH if it's trying that hard to run (ie in peices) then I'd put it back together and stop worrying.

Try
check plugs, grade and gap (close up to 27 thou for LPG)

Leads for cross-arcing

Dizzy cap, lots of rubbish ones about, check that all 8 terminals have discoloured/pitted the same amount, check for cracks and tracking.

A richer fuel mix is harder to ignite, like LPG is harder, so a slight weakness in the ignition will show up first under acceleration.
