Last night at my parents, looked out the kitchen window to see just black smoke!!! upon further investigation found the guy who had bought the 200 year old farm cottage behind us.... only to apply to demolish it had lit a fire not 4 yards from our fence, the best part of 8ft high.

Upon aproaching him with may other disgruntled neighbours to ask if he would let it die down all we got was 'its under control' followed by him re-fusing to talk to us!

now i dont mind a fire on a winter night but the bloke failed to realise that the other side of our fence is a 1500L heating oil tank!

Maybe its because he recieved 21 complaints about his plans, as hes also just trimmed the hedge to the front of the property - leaving all the clippings on the pavement.

pretty pathetic behaviour from middle aged man! in what was a nice country village!

Can he demolish it? I thought that would probably be listed at that age. As for the fire aspect, if he continues speak to the local council re the nuisance aspect.
If you want to be really picky, he may have commited littering offences by dropping stuff, namely the clippings, from his land onto the pavement, but that would be pushing it. Worth a shot though.

Apparently so. Even though Melton Council voted 100% against the development it was over turned by the chairman as it would cost too much to fight at apeal!

Just annoying that someone can be so petty!

I thought that no-one could light a fire that causes black smoke, it's called environmental pollution.
AFAIK, this is enforced, even if it takes place in the countryside, report him to your local environmental health officer.

I always thought the chairman had the casting vote in the case of a tie  :?  .......... not the ability to over rule the entire council   :shock:

The smell of Grimsby docks springs to mind  :twisted:
