Bobtail Range Rover Classic's

I'm considering cuttting a classic up soon and was wondering if anyone on here has any pictures of their own bobtail's, including where you cut and how you stitched it back together and delt with the fuel tank.
And before you say it, yes i know my work has made one of the most famous bobtailed Rangie's but i want to see what other people did with theirs (remembering that it wont be my work building it for me   )

Well firstly do you want a pickup or full cab?

2 or 4 door donor?

I've got access to a 2 door and i'm planning on leaving the rear seats in (for now) so i'm not interested in tray back's or pick ups.
There's loads of pictures of bobtails around the net but i'm interested in build pictures and details.

On a 2-door, if you want it to look right then I think you'll be cutting the outer panel just behind the wheel then re-make the flange and bolt the rear corner back on.  The inner panel leaves you a lot more choice but I'd be tempted to cut the back end out and move it as one peice up to the wheelarches.

The roof will probably be best cut further forewards, due to it tapering near the back it's hard to make a neat join.

of me i can not find it at the moment

Will keep looking and post when and if i can find it

I think its the bloke on here with the bright orange ninety

so if you can find him its on his sig as he did one as well

Also i have chopped up two, two door rangies mate

And its not that hard get a grinder ,cutting disc and off you go :D

just remember to double check all measurements

Friend of mine has now completed bobtailing his rangie... he has done it very elegantly to provide a small pick up whilst retaining the trade mark upper tailgate shape.

He hass put a fuel tank (made from a calor gas tank!) where the back seat was... but IIRC he could have left the rear seat in place.

Looks tidy, like the short length pickup, good to have space inside. Reckon he's going to mince his tyres/wheel arches though!

Go for it Jake, can never get enough bobtails in the world!

The pic was taken mid build before he'd cut the arches and added some defender wheel arches... finishes it off a treat.

yeah very nice, like the ways he's filled the rear door gap/handle. Finishes it off nicely. What tyres is that on?

here mine, be it work in progress.

Still lots to do, Purchase and fit arches looking at using Roccia type arches so lots of pannels to cut, Attach rock Sliders and paint, weld in rear bumper and trim and paint. trim and finish front bumper and paint. Make fuel tank... here some pics

that looks nice, good choice of colour! Like those tyres aswell , always fancied a set of jungles trekkers. Shame they don't do larger

Think i should point out your bumpers too wide though!

yes i know, i'll fit arches first, then trim the bumpers to fit nicely with the arches! same with rock sliders!

No i dont sorry, best thing to do is have a quick look round the net just a basic glimse at a plan then just go for it! bite the bullet and go for it! The more you look at what other ppl have done the more it puts u off from doing it!

Just remove rear pannels etc etc and be brave! once the pannels are off its far easier to see what to do :D
