Off-roading is cheap, when you compare it to something like cycling.

I used to like spending money on posh bits when I rode lots, but this takes the biscuit.

You reckon that's expensive.

Try anything to do with boating. Marine this or that means think of a number treble it and multiply by the first number you thought of.
Even just river license and moorings are an arm and a leg.

 Iknow bikes have come a long way over the past 20 years or so, but my god the price for that chain. I nearly fell off my chair.

I think if you love your sport/hobby youll be prepaired to pay anything in order to better your equipment and yourself.

But the best and dearest doesnt ( nesserselarly ? ) mean your better than than everyone else. I say this because a phew years back i used to go carp fishing. Now i had enough tackle and gear for every eventuality but it was mostly the cheap end of the scale, were as one of my mates was a bit of a tackle tart and all his gear was top quality expensive stuff, but who caught bigger and more carp. Yep me!. Haveing the best doeasnt mean you are the best. :D  But if you can afford to get it, you proberbly would.
If in first you dont suceed, try second....
If it aint broke, your not trying ard enough....

I know all about that, I paid £1500 for a Mountain Bike back in 1990!
Damn good one it was too, square externally butted frame, clamped forks, Magura hydraulic brakes, Bullseye chainset, XT group.
Long gone now!
(so's the Cyclo-Cross bike)

And then in 1994 I bought a (bonded) Titanium road bike, with a mixture of Ultegra, Campagolo, Ritchey & Flite.
Still got that one

For the past few years I've fancied one of the Trek Carbons - the Lance Armstrong editions, but no way can I justify it.
I'd settle equally for a Merlin titanium
Richard A Thackeray
Defender 110Td5 'Heritage Gone, but not forgotten
Jaguar XKR; X88 JLT, also 'gone, but not forgotten'

Yorkshire Born & Bred, and proud of it.

oh yes i can relate to specialist angler kit, i spent hundreds and hundreds.
what about radio control aircraft, now that is expensive, at one point i had 25 planes, nine of which all had radio gear and engines in and were ready to fly 6 others had just engines and the others just needed repairing

:D  I too like my M.T.Bs, it reminds me of the time me and DPG went for a ride in the Peaks in September 2003, it was a cold and damp day but it didnt stop us raceing each other down Chapel Gate ( a well known steep heavily rutted and has bit rocks/stones, greenlane ). I was in front going well about 15-20mph ( slow really compared to down hillers ). Passed a couple of blokes on the way down as they were pushing there M.T.Bs up the hill, as i passed them they looked at me with a shocked look on there faces ( i was going a bit quick at this point ). Went round a bend out of sight of DPG, yep you guessed it, going to quick and my std none disk brakes would not slow me down and i hit a deep rut at about 25mph. O ver the bar i went and hit a sharp rock with my head, the first phew seconds i just lay there until DPG came round the corner LAUGHING at my dimise. I was lucky really i was not wearing a helmet just a thick wooly hat, but i managed to split my eyelid open and cut my hands. To make matters worse i was already in pain with a tooth absess, DPG had some pain killers in his car. Bye the time we got back to DPGs house i had a right shinner, cut stopped bleeding after about 4 days. Moral of this tale is, Bye a dam helmet next time.

:D Yes i used to roll my own baits/boilies. Those are carp are clever and got used to the same flavour after a short period, so i change them slightly every time i went fishing. And good watercraft counts. Knowing the waters i fished really helped. Sometimes ide just sit there hour after hour just watching the water and carp feeding habits. :D

Nothing to do with 4x4s but i did like fishing in the past.

My old boss was a bit of a nutter, bike mad, and in 1995 paid £2,500 for a street racing bike.  Yes, £2,500..

What made even weirder was the fact that he was such a tight git he squeaked when he walked!

He was so tight ( and mad) he actually pocketed the train fair to a training day,  and cycled the  120 miles to get there. Got a lift from one of the delivery men for the way back

He was always falling off or running into things (notably a parked motorbike one day ) as he was virtualy blind in one eye, and only had 50% vision in the other.

He cycled as he was banned from driving.

One of the guys at work used to take the same route home as the boss took, but by bus, and occasionally came in the next day reporting "the boss may be late" as he'd seen him spread eagled on the A60-something after colliding with a parked car that had viciously jumped out in front of him.  At traffic lights.

He lived 5 miles away from work, but used to do a 30 mile trip into work, and 20 miles back, whether that was because he got got lost, or enjoyed cycling, we never could tell

Wouldn't have been so bad, but he'd never discovered a deodorant that worked. :-&

As HWMBO says - "if God had meant us to cycle, he would have given us bums that can sit on razor blades".

Trust me it wasnt a bobble hat. perish the thought. It was an old Carp Fishing beany hat.....

Seriously though next time ill get a helmet. :(

That sounds like a good bike m8. I was looking at spending that much on a Specialized bit hit downhill m.t.b last year, but im getting to old for that kind of malarky. My current m.t.b is a Carrea Sabotage Evo 3 its a good alrounder full sus bike and only cost me £300.00 second hand built by the lad who runs my local bike shop. :D

Your right as specially if no one else has used this sort of bait for a while, its good dipped in Marmite or other of the shelf dips.
Anything too out wit the weary carp works well.
My favourate bait was Active 8 boillies home made mixed with fishmeal additives and stimulants, i had good catches everytime i used them. :D
