welded bouncey bits
« on: November 10, 2007, 15:47:32 »
Hi All

Today I got myself a set of cranked and reinforced trailing arms for me disco only to be told by the local 4x4 garage that there is no welding aloud on suspention components for the mot and these would be a fail :?

If this is the case how do QT get away with there light weight radius arms that I have seen are welded together. :?

Any info guys :D

Sorry, that's rubbish.  Find an MOT tester who knows what he's talking about.

No cast itiem is allowed to be welded, or heated for that matter.  But hten the front arms are forged and the back ones are factory fabrications that involved, you guessed it, welding.

The majority of the suspension on the mav is fabricated. Some people rely on the guillablity of the ignorant and need a slap.

Well i,ve been testing for the last 3 years. Never heard aload of nonsense. If it looks like it's been made properly them i would pass it.
But if it looked like some cowboy made it and the welds looked like pigeon poo than i would fail it. It state's in the mot hand book if the parts have been modified with they have not or excessive heat has been aplied.
