I've just come back from a few days in Belgium touring the battle sites around Ypres and took part in the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate. Very moving.

We always go down into town to watch the old soldiers march past, also the kiddies like to go and watch, I think they both now have an idea what remembrance day means.
Its something this country needs to hold onto for the future generations.

I went to our local memorial took my 14 year old daughter .She wasnt happy when I first took her but now 5 years on she comes quite happily .Understands why and is willing to get up early on the Sunday.Not bad for a teenager.I have always wanted to go to to Menin Gate ,maybe one day

Attended the big parade in Bristol this morning with my two grandsons (13 today :) ). Next week I'll be parade marshal again for our local RBL parade. Gonna have to dig out the uniform and dust off the medals for that one .. hope the trousers still fit :shock:

I visited the Rememberance Service at a local church, and all sections of the local Scout Group (I'm a Troop Assistant), and Guiding Group paraded; our GSL and a Guide Leader gave readings.

Only one of our Scouts was unable to attend, all turned out in well pressed uniform, which you'll agree is not bad going from 10 to 15 year olds.

It's always gratifying for both serving and ex-members of HM Forces to see young people at Remembrance services. I try to make a point of speaking to as many of them as I can to let them know we appreciate them being there. Keep up the good work :D

Yea I realise that now the bloomin thing hurts my head!!!!! - was at the very end of the parade mind so reckon im excused..... got a few funny looks filling up the Freelander on the way home!!

Its a really satisfying feeling seeing students appreciating what people before them have done for this country..... We have 325 CCF Students, aged 16 - 18 - 100% turn out at the parade and in excess of 600 people at our service.

Only had my commision as a CCF Officer a year but love it - get to play with some amazing kit..... off on exercise end of Nov for 2 nights, then a week long course at Frimley starting the 2nd of Jan - gonna be a cold one.

Todays parade was led by a Police Constable who did GMP force proud .He marched step perfect in front His uniform was perfect he was a credit to the force .Even the old soldiers commented on him.There was an old soldier who had an angina attack towards the end of the service .The vicar asked for a doctor or someone with medical training.The Fire Brigade were on parade and brought an appliance round to administer oxygen till the paramedics and an ambulance appeared.We were stood round and my daughter asked if it was finished.I explained that the parade was not over till they march off but it was on hold .An explanation and she was quite happy to wait even though it meant we were there for an hour an a half.Just behind us was a toddler of about two with her mum.She asked questions loudly all the way through.I loved it thats how the young learn.

Local memorial, natter with a few other people there, then home. I don't do the god part.
Taped the parade on TV. Watched it when I got home. Nearly choked when I saw Bliar with the smug look on his face.

I dont normally attend the parade, but my thoughts are not limited to one day, this is something that I think about more often than I realise with the current situation, and the friends and comrades who I knew which are no longer around

Also to the ones I still keep in touch after 30 years, I normally like to visit the memorials on my own, without distraction

Both me and my father (87), often talk to a certain extent on our years in the forces

Nothing this year, kind of a bit miffed with the publics response.

Sorry if I offend anyone.

But at one Rememberance parade, the local chavs and drunks decided to through beer cans and food wrappers at the people in the parade.

Just a pity we were not allowed to retaliated, that would have taught the little ****'s some respect.

But the fallen are usually always thought of, specially when work is littered with reminders of what they have done and still are going through.

As with every year can't attend.. I remember the countless ones I've paraded at in uniform (Marching or playing) and picture the last post and reveille... and the line that gives me goosebumps...

...and in the morning, we will remember them

Back to doing it for real next year as I've just been accepted as an ACF potential instructor and start training in January for it.

we visited some sites in the Somme earlier this year, and the girls and i went to our scout parade - my girls know all about the world wars, and often comment on various aspects of current wars - they surprise me considering they are only 11

Went to our local church for the memorial service.
My grandad (ex-serviceman) always used to read the Eulogy, he passed away earlier this year so a representative from the local services read the first part and I read the second part...personally very moving.

I see from the responses that there are a few members of the Scout Association who have taken part in their respective parades. As a GSL I attempted to get the whole group to attend but in the end only managed 12 scouts. Most of the other scouts mentioned that they had football or rugby hence they could not attend. This excuse has been used for years and by now I normally just accept it as them saying that they do not want to go. With this said however what a surprise I saw while standing around the monument at the highest part in the town with the RBL, Council, Cadets, Guides, Scouts and a few members of the public to see that three football matches were in full flow in the park and none of them stopped at 11. It seems that it is not any more an excuse. It has made my blood boil that for just one day in the year the people that organise these games cannot time it for the afternoon. I noted my anger to someone involved in the local football team and their response.... The times are fixed at the start of the year. argh!!! here and I thought rememberance Sunday was the same time every year and in fact if we look at next years calender I could give you the exact date.

Couldn't agree more, Shrewsbury Under-17 RUFC had to forfeit an important game on Remembrance Sunday, one that would have decided whether they were a part of North Midlands League 1 or 2. Kick off was supposed to be at 11am at Camp Hill, Birmingham, but most of our players, including my youngest, had various parade commitments in Shrewsbury.

We're particularly sick at this, as we had won four out of six matches in the pre-liminary skills league of North Midlands Northern, and were put in this position.
