Help! Sump drain plug
« on: November 11, 2007, 15:17:57 »
Help me please, just tried doing an oil change and started to undo the drain plug and it started to undo and is now just spinning. Obviously the thread has been stripped.

what can i do to get it out?

will it need a new sump?

can i use the disco or are the bits of stripped metal likely to get into the oil and circulate in the engine and do damage?

Help!

If tou can get a set of mole grips on the plug, try grabbing it vertically with the end of the jaws, rather then the normal way, you will have a better pull downwards to re grab onto the threads

If you are lucky it will be the nut that has stripped the threads, if not you will finish up with the threads on the sump gone west, which will mean a removal anyway, good luck

Not every problem can be solved with duct tape, and it's exactly for those situations we have WD 40
