Fitting a Rebel snorkel?
« on: November 14, 2007, 23:00:36 »
Long shot I know but has anyone fitted a Rebel 4x4 snorkel to a 2.5NA? I have one and it consists of:

Cranked pipe and mushroom top (wing top entry)
Long length of flexi

Within the parcel was the bit which made this specific to the 2.5NA, which is:

Flexi to air box adaptor tube
Short length of flexi
Short (approx 8") metal tube diameter perfect to fit inside flexi

The air intake is passenger side behind the headlight, can't see how to get pipe to snorkel, can't raise Rebel by phone or e-mail.

Any ideas?

hello,
it aint the most glamorous solution but heres what we did,

found an old hover pipe ran it from the top of the snorkel sealed in with heat proof foam that was left over from fitting an airconditioning vent at my dads office, and ran the hover pipe all the way to the air filter throught the existing pipe, that way if your landy is same as mine and has wholes in this pipe you kill two birds with one stone , its cheap and as far as i can tell it works, i have done the test where you put a thick bin liner over the snorkel and the engine didnt stall but on further ivestigation the air was coming in from another location,

hope this is of help to you
cheers kieran

I've fitted one, though I've converted to TDi and have mounted a different air filter.  Nonetheless, I had to extend the Rebel hose into it, and just used a length of snorkel flexi pipe - got mine from MM4x4 for £10 a metre.

The n/a air intake pokes down behind the headlamp so you'll probably want to swivel it round somehow, should be easy enough if I remember correctly - can't you just unclip the top half and rotate it 180 degrees?? you might need to take a hacksaw to the trumpet a bit, or just bin the lot and fit an air filter from a 200tdi.

Not my page or pictures just a bit of googling to see how others have done it.
I stood and stared at the possible routes to get the rebel snork connected to the airfilter on an 86 Defender 2.5 NAD and was suffering from an outbreak of head scratching.

The pictures I linked to showed a route I didnt think of but it makes sense considering none of the rubber pipe-work would be exposed to branches.
Watch out theres a tigger about!
