Yes that is true but because they ask it of you and your in a no win situation I think that is still a breach, i'll ask the trainers here when I see them. End of the day, what happens if you refuse to give this infomation. They then say that you cannot fly so you have to give it too them therefore they breach the DPA. What does gaining this infomation give them, I don't know the actual wording but the act states that infomation held against a consumer must be relivent to what it is and if anymore infomation is held against that individual then this is deemed as incorrect storage of data. I can see why they want the details but if someone in the government decided to go into my bank details etc without my permission and my bank then gave that infomation out, I would have cause then to report my bank to the FSA for breaching my infomation to a 3rd party.

I do DPA as well in my line of work but I'm guessing it's no where near your SWMBO's level of knowledge :oops:

I wouldn't be surprised if issues of National security are exempt from DPA and FSA, most of those details look totally innocuous, and most will be automatically generated so theres no questions to answer as such - if you've got nothing to hide why should it be an issue.

I'll gladly give all this info if it means the country will be a safer place. However, I see no problem with identity cards either - you can already be tracked by your cash cards, car numberplate, passport etc etc - so what's the big worry?

No point in refusing - IF you trust the recipient to keep your data secure and use it appropriately.  Given our government uses anti-terrorism legislation to combat peaceful protests, I can't say I really trust them on either count.

They even ask for:

Credit card number
billing address
your address
name of person who made the booking
DOB

They can have a field day with me, hopefully they'll screen the goons that have all this infomation as right now we're looking at pretty much everything required for identity theft and also, how will your bank fare if the worst shoud happen because as you say you gave them the infomation so in your T&C's for credit cards etc it says that you are not covered for fraugulent use as a result of you giving someone your details etc  :?  

It's all a bit of big brother, they even may not let you leave the country if you have an outstanding parking ticket or an outstanding court fine, [Edited] ! I pay the government henchmen come life wreckers (CSA to me and you) every month and I'm currently in arrears, now they ask for over £300 p/m off me and I only take home 950 p/m so right now I'm struggling and slowing sinking so I have a solicitor trying to fight them. This means payments have stopped whilst mediation between the tribunial service and my solicitors take place. I'm due to go on holiday next week with our baby to disneyland paris, if i'm not making payments to this court fine then they can stop me leaving the country, there's nice, and its got to be against human rights, remember when they tried to tag everyone and take your passport off you if you didn't pay the amount they wanted.

seems to me someone can't read passports or tickets. Every bit of that info is already held on systems either the travle agents/ferry/whomever you travel with when you book.
Didi you pay with a credit card?
Do they know where to send the tickets? How did you get your tickets?
Do they know the names of everyone travelling err yes .
, unless of course you have your own SLA or a boat.



Having got pulled over by HM C&E at Dover on the outward leg in Oct when they had the chance to pull a few Rugby T****s .......... I did wonder whether these new systems were inp lace or whetehr I as a model motehr in the community looked like an arms dealer or a people smuggler.However 3 of us have slightly odd passports so does not suprise me we got pulled.

 But the new passports are barcoded and have all your info on the chip embedded in the rear page. There is also a bar code scanner which flicks up all pics nad matches to the photo in the passport which is shielded with a small self inducting cipper loop.

Now over 10yrs ago we had loads of info on people and could track and trace very easily. One of the biggest problems has bene caused by Credit Card Tarts who keep swapping cards to keep 0%. Because people regualrly change cards it makes it harder to spotthe "Watch Lists".


But to get back to the original issue. They have this infor already.
I think also they do not intend to stop people who are having problems with agenciesl ike CSA when there is a genuine issue but are more interested in the perpetual offenders etc . Do you really wantthe chav overthe road gonig off for 2 weeks in H~alkadiki when he has £3k of fines to pay ?

I think it is also interesting to know that the MAil is also known as the Daily Rant in many areas of HMG and it's tabloid size definately reflects it's quality of journalism.

Being neither right nor left nor undecided I merely use the Mail for the puzzles and lining the cat tray.

Only way this constitutes a breach is under the section that talsk about information required not being excesive. However, I'm sure ethey have a strong argument for each and every one of the questions. Not saying they are right... just pointing out the reality.

Comments relating to those with access to the information (illegal immigrant security gaurds for instance!) do, however, constitute a potential breach of the data protection act.
