Today I should have been going for a flying lesson, but guess what? It got rained off! No flying at 50 ft, lining up on the dams for me!
No 'tally ho, back in time for tea and sticky buns'! :(

My Sunday was cold, wet & fairly hard-going :-({|= (self-inflicted at that!!)

I was supposed to have been riding a Cyclo-Cross over at Greetland (south-west of Halifax) this afternoon.

But given the weather of the day, SWMBO decided she didn't want to go with me.
It was a 2-parter, & after the time-trial at 12:00, we'd have been hanging around for the second part starting at 13:45.
So, given the inclement weather, I can't really blame her. I don't think I really wanted to be hanging about in the rain & cold between the 2 sections.

I know  I could have gone by myself, but it was the simple things like; who could I get to look after the Landie-keys that was the problem

As penance for missing a planned event, I got ready & went out for a ride
I think I did about 40-42miles, in the manky wet & cold weather.*
I left the house at roughly 11:20

The legs started to warm up at around the 6mile mark, which was somewhere around FerryBridge, then the rain got a bit heavier :(
Passing through Barkston Ash & Saxton, it got very cold indeed, as the wind got up a bit.

At one point somewhere near The New Inn (west of Sherburn), I'll admit, I got the giggles for being so bl**dy stupid & coming out

Although, I have been out when it's snowing before, and even ridden over Snake Pass (the A57) & The Strines when there's ice on the roads - as well as snow laying deeply at the sides.

When I walked back in the house, SWMBO had to peel my gloves off, as I couldn't feel my fingers sufficiently to do it myself

My feet were equally cold, as they were also so wet that they could be webbed!!
I'll admit, I almost 'squealed like a girl' when I got in the shower, as the hot water sprayed my feet
But settled for a manly "B*gger, that's hot!"

* For the record; Home, Whitwood, Cutsyke, Glasshoughton (near 'Xscape'), FerryBridge, Brotherton, Byram-cum-Sutton, Birkin, Hillam, Monk Frystson, South Milford, Sherburn-in-Elmet, Barkston Ash, Saxton, Sherburn-in-Elmet, South Milford, Lumby, Fairburn, Allerton Bywater, Castleford, Whitwood & home

If anyone's interested, the route can be ascertained from this 'Multi-Map' page

For those who might still be showing an interest, the events I've entered are shown in this album

I reckon that I'd have ended up looking like this after the first part, let alone the second:shock:

So, would have had to take hot-water, flannels & towels as well ;)

It turns out that there was a bit of an emergency at the Greetland Cyclo-Cross!!!
The event was abandoned
See 'Latest News'

I read in this mornings 'Yorkshire Post'[/b] that a rider had collapsed and taken to Hospital, with a suspected heart attack, but didn't wish to comment until I knew a bit more.

I'll admit I don't recognise the name, but believe he's a member of the organising club[/quote]
