:( 300tdi 1996 running fine. Put it in to gear, goes nowhere! then there is a horrible noise from said gear box. Depress the clutch and the noise stops. Any ideas anyone?

Is the transfer box properly in gear ?

Thanx for the replies. It seems like it wants to engage,but the cog is spinning round! There were no whines or bad sounds prior to this happening.(but plenty from me when it did). It wont engage difflock either.
or 4th gear

could either be the clutch centre has been ripped out or the g box main shaft has stripped,

Bang on redline 7500,clutch centre ripped out :(
