I am throwing myself on the vast knowledge of the forum as I urgently need help with my sick 2.0 DI Vectra. :(

She has reached 197 000 (...done 24 000 since end of Jan!?! :oops: )    miles without too much wrong, but she has recently developed what seems to be a fuel starvation problem. After Googling it, it seems it might be linked to the fuel return pipes on the injectors (...the fabric covered ones?!) but is this the case as a number of other causes were also suggested (..vac pipe on waste gate??...eh?!)? Has anyone else had this problem or heard of it...and if so, how is it cured???

( A bit of further info...) On start up, it runs like a bag of nails to the point where it stalls itself....only with plenty of acelerator gunning will the engine finally settle after about 5 mins and run normally....however, on occasion it starts up just fine and then runs on "roo-juice" for the rest of the journey. At no point does the engine management light come on but it eats diesel when it is doing its darn fine kangaroo impression.

It is kinda imperative I keep the old girl going, as I need her as my workhorse while I look for my "Project Landy" . :D

Answers on a postcard please.........(or alternatively a reply will do just as good )

Hi we have a Vectra, couldn't start it , then loads of black smoke it was the (excuse the girlie description) pipes that go on the injectors? under the cover? ,  these collapse, wont show on any diagnostics. i dont pay much attention to the Vectra ( give me a Triumph Herald and i can fix them) OH bought some pipe and it was fixed in 1/2hr, luckily the workshop where he works had had a few in with similar problems, so he could fix it straight away,
Other problem I had was the turbo hose blew off, just needed putting back on.

A mate of mine had a problem like this and as mentioned above it turned out to be perished spill pipes on the injectors.

Go to the VVOC (Vauxhall Vectra Owners Club )site I did when the wifes 18 ecotech went weired it's free to sign up and has tonnes of info on all models .

I did what they call the paper clip test (shorting the diagnostic plug with a paper clip) and the flashing light on the dash told me it was the crank sensor and the idle valve  :shock:

And it was right  :D  :D

the wire to the crank sensor had melted down the side of the engine where you couln't see it and the idle valve was solid with carbon it goes like stonk now it's been sorted  :D  :D

If its an earlier vectra, PM me your email and I can send you a file with the how to do and codes for the paper clip method, though again this only works for earlier versions.
