its just one thing that i notice when watching 4x4 going thr deep water,

it seems it dont matter weather they are pet,or diesel,

so why do they do it :?:  :D

o and fill free to post pics of your truck taking a swim

What kinda smoke and where from  8-[   Mine gets a lotta steam from under bonnet  being a  V8,    If its steam from the exhaust? _ maybe the water suddenly cooling the exhaust produces steam inside the pipe ?? Any more "smoke" than that i would be concerned  :lol:

yeah sorry guys should of said,

with diesel its noemally loads of black smoke,

petrol it blue

but dont smoke when on dry land :?

both of ours do neither of those :-k   WE run a TD5 And a V8,   I guess black smoke from a derv could just be right foot to get through the water ??

also when watching vids of other peoples trucks they seem to do it

Something like this cloud of white smoke mine kicked out at the weekend??
Thought it had taken in some water for a bit as it seemed to missfire but drove out fine and showed no sign of any problems afterwards.

Well a lot of it will be steam, not just from the hot exterior that's being splashed but also from the exhaust gasses, the atmosphere near the river wil be humid so it will condense more quickly than normal.

The blue and grey will probably be because many drivers floor it in water to keep momentum and unlike normal driving the engine speed does not increase so the smoking becomes more noticeable.

It does make sense actually.

As RRB says loads of right boot means loads of fuel but without the revs; that means the fuel doesn'rt all burn and comes out in the exhaust. The exhaust has just been cooled so less chance of burning in the exhaust - result black smoke.

A couple of inches above the wing mirrors, on a Disco 1.  At the back, the spare tyre was underwater.  So water half way up the windscreen, and that wasn't bow wave, that was standing water  :shock:

At the time we were stationary, because Discos float  :x

Deepest I went was about 3.5ft deep last December. I have a photo of someone else going through the ford in Eversley about 30mins after me. Shame we missed each other!

I had the bow wave half way up the windscreen and the water came out the heater vents on the dash board  :shock:  :lol:

The thing that saved me was a puncture the daybefore so spare was flat, 3 people in the car, 3 peoples luguage for a weekend, new set of shocks n springs, selection of logs, my heavy tool boxes. It still floated a tad at the front as the steering went light! :lol:

me and solihull-mick went through a local ford earlier in the year after a load of rain - he called my 110 a barge after that due to the distance it floated........ water lapping against the side windows, strong current and a severe case of damp a#se all the way home  - but we made it!

ps i've also had the water through the vents a few times, i can't believe how many times the cd player has filled up but a few days later comes back to life!!

Been in water in a rangey with 4" lift and Big tyres well over the bonnet, just coming up the screen (and in the windows as they no longer worked!)

Also been in a 90 so it was just lapping on the bottom of the screen, that was amusing.

Wingmirror depth, if not a bit more in the local ford. Its too short for floating to be an issue though. And the rate it was taking on water...

The suzuki's been in over her mirros more than once, good thing they have no center diff... Vitaras float  :shock:

that fords is near me,seen alot of cars/unprepped trucks hydrolocked there,the one just down river is even better at bramshill.

unfortunately I didnt take that pic. I went through 30mins before the pic was taken. Pitty. I had the water half way up the windscreen though. It filled the air vents up too. Eek

The one down Ford Lane near Bramshill is quiet good except for the drop off / onto the concrete edge can catch your tow bar!!

It is a very enjoyable ford yes. I also witnessed an unprepped disco hydrolock in there whilst doing my postie rounds. the dad of the car wasnt very happy as the son was supposed to be going to Scotland to pick up rocks for his uni project but thought he would have a "play" first!

I have sen that ford deeper than that though.  :shock:
