AFAIK the disco diffs are 24 spline whereas the series counterparts are the courser 10 spline versions.
Early range rover diffs are 10 spline tho.
Without and overdrive and standard 4.71's in you will romp through your gears to a top speed of 60. you can easily pull away in 2nd with the TDI in.
With an OD you can then hit about 75 but yes doo so very quickly but only the steepest of hills are a decent weight in the back will cause you to need to drop out of it. some steep hills with a trailer might require low box just to get going.
With 3.54 diffs it'll be like driving around with the OD in all the time so 1st gear pull away but being able to cruise at 65 and again a top wack of 75.
so really it'll be like the above, but some steep hills with a trailer might require low box just to get going.
Now 3.54's and an OD would be more towards those requiring outright cruising ability. you can cruise at 65 and a theoretical 85+ could be had if you are feeling brave enough.
