My Rangie story so far. Now Bobtail.

The van style could be the new fashion not really my cup of tea as i love the look of them as they are just shorter.

Following progress and it's starting to look the BIZ!

I like the idea of the "van type",
it does look really close when eyeballing down from the end of the roof to the cut rear chassis.
I bet it would look good too,
The back would look totally different with the back door,
you might even get a Disco door on there with a bit of planning!
what do you think?
Maybe even the back of a Transit?

Hmm, back end of a Disco roof and Disco door.  No, wait, it'd look like a Disco :-k

IIRC the top of the top tailgate is curved, so it wouldn't be possible to use that without modyfying either.

Tell you what might work though, the back panel from a truckman top, that would look ok

I like yours a lot.

i will be putting arches on but prob just go for defender ones as i dont want to spend a fortune on them just to rip them off on something.

Still unsure on a colour yet so its staying as it is. until i get most of the other bits sorted.


Bearing in mind the rangie has hardly been used in almost a year, i have done a ful service and put a good battery on her yesterday and after pumping the fuel back through the system it fired straight up with no coughing spluttering nothing and idled perfectly.


Also just fitted the fuel filler into the rear quarter.

What tank have you used? i have been very sneaky and managed to find a tank that sits in the floor and doest look NASTY! In fact it could be said it was made for a bobtail...... woooohoooo  :dance: then i've used the orignal sneder in the tank and then fitted a external fuel pump (high pressure) :D

I just used the original tank but mounted it in the boot.

it looks ok and should still be able to fit 2 fixed buckets in the back too.

roughhhhhhhhhhhhhh laddddddddd! haha suppose it save on spending the £'s. Are you bothing to cage it? i think thats going to be my next purchase!!!  :( and with RRC cages being double that of 90's its gunna hurt  :doh:

It just seemed the easiest way of doing it.

Yeah i will be caging it once most of the other things are done but that will be a while yet i would of thought.

Yeah sory ts all sorted and on the road.

spent the last 2 weeks getting it back running.

put new fuel pump, new plugs again and ripped all the lpg electrics out and re-new the air pipe as it has imoploded on itself causing it to seriously over fuel.

But finally got it back running almost 100% now and its going out laning this wekend and im fitting a 2" sus lift next week so it will b nice and tall...

yeah ill try to get some over the weekend its still no where near finished but its now on the road which is the main thing.


Still got the bodywork to tidy up, interior to sort out, tyres etc etc etc etc its a big project.

A quick update on the project.

I have now fitted a small centre box in the exhaust with no back box and now sounds as a V8 should. [:)]

Also managed to install a LPG sytem so a lot cheaper running for me now.
Also fitting a 2" lift kit this week and poly bushes.

Really need to get some pics and vids up but just aint got round to it yet...

It really depends on what your comparing to what. A fitted full 90 cage doesn't cost any more than a RRC internal cage fitted (I think there is a hundred quid in it). If you've got a truck cab, then it's slightly cheaper, but generally a 6 point cage is a six point cage.

Fitted, about a grand, doesn't seem to matter to what it was fitted. Which is odd, I know.

What does seem to make the odds is the tubing used and who makes it.

For some daft reason I've spent a lot of time looking for cages recently (Discos, rangies, BMWs (don't ask!) Jaguars, Austins etc etc). We should compare notes.

for example i rang whitbred 90 full external is 650 fitted range rover one came out around the 1200 mark. again ful external and for a bobtail too.... all seem to be around that story when rang round. have you found a cheaper external rrc cage? if so can you let me know pls
