i would repair, might cost nearly what its worth, but you know your vehicle, you could sell it and buy loads of problems.
i would suggest its worth around a grand as long as its running good, but prices seem to vary from area by quite a bit sometimes.
around here its a 7/800 quid motor.

I'd agree, fix it then you know you have a good car.  Given that S/H V&M engines cost around tenpence you might get a complete pump in good condition for sensible money too (with a spare engine attached).

ok looks like pump is leaking at a gasket at the back of the pump where the injector pipes screw on going to have a better look tomorrow at work
i am definitely keeping the rangie with four options
1.waiting to hear about complete engine for spares (just change the pump) should know on tuesday
2.repair this pump by removing the rear plate where the injector pipes screw on (does anyone know whats behind this) and fit new gasket
3.get price for recon pump when i get to work tomorrow
4.throw this  engine away and fit a tdi
looks like i am going to be busy

Whilst it's running the V&M is not that bad an engine, so I'd be keeping it going for the least possible outlay and spend your hard-earned on other things.

I suspect that gasket may be a PITA to change, especially on the car so swapping the pump might be a good idea.

i was  thinking it would be a pita to do and would take it off the car to fix i know it means more work but surely it would be easier than struggling i got a mate who will help so that will make it easier
the engine itself runs really well with no smoke and uses no water so it is worth keeping in i was only thinking of a tdi because they are cheaper on parts if anything else goes wrong

I'm no expert by any menas but IIRC there is likely to be non-return valves very close to the outlets, possibly under that plate.

Carl. I did a full rebuild of all the seals on my pajero with the pump off. It only took an hour or two whence i got the pump off. Word of advice tho. When unscrewing anything cover with a rag. When you get the inevitable ping you wont have to go next door looking for the spring     I bought a complete rebuild kit with instructions for mine, but for the life of me I cant remember where. As soon as I find out i'll post on here for you.  :D
