simple one for ya

is it possible to get enough oil pressure from just crancking it over on the starter motor, with no plugs and fuel pump fuse in??????

and if you can get enough oil pressure will it be enough to turn the oil pressure warning light off????

Hi mate i have seen it happen on loads of other motors when people just keep on cranking it over and over  :roll:  so i cant see it being to much of a problem on a V8  8) why do you have a oil pressure problem  :cry:

Not sure about latter variants of the rover V8, but the oil pumps on early versions were not self priming so if the oil has drained out of them then they need packing with petroleum jelly or similar to fill them up before the will work again.

I'm pretty sure mine (1987 3.5 EFI) turned the oil pressure light out when cranked for a period of time. When I was doing a lot of that a while ago though I was more concerned about the darn thing not igniting.

we also use pretroleum jelly or vaseline  :shock:  to pack out the oil pumps when we do engine rebuilds on the v8's at work

Or take out the dizzy, cut the head off a screwdriver and stick it in a cordless drill, then use it to spin the oil pump drive.

But back to the original question, why did you ask?
