I think it's because there's more temptation for those who might be daft enough to drink and drive at this time of year - more parties, etc.

I know, it was more of a rhetorical question, as it ought to be all year round.
Yes, I know that an Officer with a reasonable suspicion can ask for a breath sample.
Plus after a RTC, it is given (taken??) too

Ah - yes, I agree, it should be all year.

I recall a few years back in France the police had roadblocks on the main roads on both banks of the Loire in the Tours area and were conducting random tests (every other car flagged down, or something similar). They should be doing the same here to my mind.

This year they've been warining about all the alcohol in food too, most people don't count that up when trying to figure out if they are fit to drive.

The only bit I disagree with is the title "Drunk" driving, it should be "Drinking" & Driving.

It doesn't matter if you are drunk; if you have been drinking you should not be driving.

Personally I liked the campaign of a few years back with the catchy song, the lyrics of which are not really suitable for mud-club but which referred to the drunk driver as a certain piece of anatomy.  Cue video of driver swerving across pedestrian crossing, etc.

I think I said this last year, unfortunately there is an element (Growing!!) out there that dont need drink (or drugs!) to drive dangerously, they manage it anytime any place anywhere

My home town Lancaster had a purge on Friday started at 7am in the morning all main routes, so if you've had a drink the night before be careful.

We all know not to drink and drive its difficult to know how long it stays in your system.

It is indeed the season to be jolly and I've taken to cutting down on my driving to fit in all the extra jollifications.
However, unless you actually crash into something the chances of getting asked to blow into a bag are laughable since all the officers that used to be out and about in Panda cars (or whatever they are called these days) seem to have been replaced by Gatsos.

Where are all the Police motorbikes ?
Used to see them all over the place but not seen one for Years in Oxfordshire or Wiltshire

Hmm, "Speed gatsos" can detect you going over a limit and you have to prove who was driving.
Whats next, lane wobbling Gatsos and you have to prove you were sober ?
Watch out theres a tigger about!

Motor bikes are all in Lancaster, could be coming to a town near you.

Its those 3 or 4 pints the night before that most people are not sure about.

I think most forces take the bikes 'off the road' at this time of year due to weather comditions and also they are an easier target for the IDIOTS to try and knock off.
